Update #6: SIX hours to go!

Posted on April 30, 2011

I didn't know what a big day this would be when our Kickstarter campaign began. Not only will we be funded today, but it looks as if we'll finally be releasing our next book (What Would Madame Defarge Knit?) into the wild, too. Thank you for all your enthusiasm this month, it's made a work-filled whirlwind go really quickly!

A few quick notes: there's still an unclaimed handknit socks reward package, and if you've never had handknit socks, you really don't know what you've been missing. Thanks to my friend and Felt Frenzy co-author Heather Brack for offering to knit this the most recent pair!

As soon as possible after the project closes, I'll be using Kickstarter's built-in tools to ask you for information that will help me deliver your rewards, whether it's your email or mailing address, or other options. With the digital rewards (e-books, patterns, etc), I'll send out a download link from e-junkie.com, so please make sure they're in your safelist if you do heavy spam filtering.

With only six hours left, posting this project on social media might jog a few "oh yeah, I meant to do that!"s from people, so it's still very much appreciated!

Thank you again, from me particularly, but also from everyone whose hard work goes into these books!

Update #5: Less than 70 hours left! + news re: Fresh Designs Crochet

Posted on April 27, 2011

You know it's serious when Kickstarter begins to count down in hours instead of days! As of this update, we're less than 70 hours away from the finish line. (And $105 away from $12,000!)

I wanted to let all of our supporters know that (in response to feedback from the crochet community) we decided to move up our plans for the Fresh Designs Crochet series. We made an announcement about the series editor MK Carroll today. MK is a thoughtful and forward-thinking designer who will help us publish the very best possible follow up to the knit-focused Fresh Designs books, and to put out the kinds of extraordinary crochet books fiber arts people want to see.

CHA (the Craft and Hobby Association) recently published its 2010 study numbers on craft participation. Crocheting outranks knitting in terms of dollars spent -- $1.062 billion! -- and is #3 to knitting's #9 in terms of overall household participation (17.4 million households crochet, and 13 million knit). It makes sense to move forward on Fresh Designs Crochet now, particularly in light of the strong support we've gotten from our Kickstarter backers. Thank you.

With all that said -- final push -- could you please retweet/post about the final hours of our Kickstarter campaign and, if you're a crocheter, about the new Fresh Designs series?

Thank you again from all of the people who are building Cooperative Press from the ground up...the editors, the designers, the authors, photographers and more.
