May 1 QuNeo Update

Update #22 · May 1, 2012 · 22 comments

Hi Backers,

We received the 1st production unit today and it is as good if not better than I had originally imagined 10 months ago.

You know how sometimes you have a great idea and reality chips away at it and you go along and you end up with something that is compromised in a lot of ways but you accept it because that is just the way life is? Well this is not that.

Sensors are creepy they are so accurate and snappy. The LEDs are brighter and fade smoother than anything else on the stage. Custom feet grip the table like an Atkins dieter on Thanksgiving - you can emote all over and the QuNeo stays in one spot.

In a word: It is done.

Two more come in tomorrow and, after yet another extended Chinese vacation, we will get in about 100 units. We will test these here in Berkeley and start shipping in order of pledge date.

We are still recovering from this devastating component recall. This one problem has cost us 100's of hours in debugging, identifying and proving to the manufacturer its product is defective.

We are being very careful to ramp up to full production. All other aspects of production are smooth and we can make 600 units a week once we have the parts. I would love to say when you will have your units but it is incredible to me we are at the end of April and have not shipped them all.

As I have useful information I will let you know.

 Thanks for your patience.

 - Keith

@BURNINGMAX, keep in mind that they didn't know until a few days before the end of March that they wouldn't be able to ship on their original schedule. And why should they send an email to the first 100 backers? I would hope that they would post an update when they know they are shipping the first 100 units, so that we all know what's going on.

Hi Keith - could you please update us on the shipments? A good idea would be to send an email to the first 100 lucky ones telling them (I hope that'll include me) when to expect the delivery. And also send an email to all the others telling how long the wait is supposed to be. This is only because I will be leaving soon on a summer long series of gigs and festivals around Europe, before flying to Burning Man in the second half of August, where I'm schedule to DJ too. Am I going to receive the Qu-Neo (and practice a bit with it) before I go on tour? If the delivery date is way ahead and we have to wait until August (that would be a bummer), than I'll rather change my shipping address and have it shipped to friends in the Bay Area - giving me a chance to get the controller before BM and also to save some money. So please let me/us know. Thanks a lot!

Is there an approximate ETA on that first shipment of 100 getting to you for testing?

@David -you are correct, we have NOT shipped any QuNeos to dealers, they are simply taking pre-orders. We will ship first to Kickstarter backers when they are officially released, before anyone else, we promise. -Andrew/KMI

Are you sure that the web sites that have them for sale can actually ship them right away?

Hi I'm a proforming dj and play quite abit and I piad and ordered for a reward of two quneo's. Their is websites sell them and have not got mine. I was buying one for a friend whom is a proforming producer and sort of feeling a bit ripped off thinking we'd have them before they where released this is not the case now. Some one email. me I'm not a happy person layered@nedjhire.com

I'm not surprised that March 18 was said that's everything is going fine!! i have during trainee ships and work a few times heard about communications between a/ our company (in The Netherlands) an a Chinese company that sometimes 2 days before the order must be ready we have an delay of a few weeks!!
KMI have probably multiple suppliers i'm happy it is just one with this #%#^*

it's all good folks! This is a different sort of beast than most internet purchases, i for one don't mind the wait when it's coupled with insight into the design and fabrication process. Very much looking forward to banging on pads.

@Marc, maybe I'm reading the comments differently, but I don't see any real impatience in the comments. There was one guy who was upset (his word) at not being able to use the device on tour, but everyone else has just been asking when the units would be ready. The comments may sound rude to you, but to be frank, we've had to pull information out of KMI. If you look back at the comments and updates, you'll see that as late as March 18 we were told that things were going just fine and they expected to ship all units in early April. It was two weeks later that we got some real info, and now we have tempered expectations. Like most everyone else who has posted here, I don't have a problem with the project taking a few more weeks or months - I just want to hear how things are going. If it sounds like cryin' and whinin', it's not meant to.

This is a great update - and it's fascinating to get an insight on what a company goes through to get a product from idea to market. Pretty excited to try this thing - but yeah. I think most of us know that it's best to get it right, and we appreciate the effort on your parts to do so. (Also the humor!) You guys hiring?

No worries. Glad to hear you're making progress. No need to ship 'til it's perfect; that is worth waiting for.

i wasn't referring to questions about updates, but if you have read the update comments, you'll find some ppl are very impatient, bordering on rude..........hence the cryin and whining comment, it was in no way directed at those who simply wanted an update

I am in no hurry. Better to get it right. You can put me at the end of the list if you like.

really excited to map this up along side a traktor F1, this is going to be perfect for what I need. are the orders shipping in order of when you backed? or is it just random list?

I'd prefer awesome late to half-baked early.

Fantastic news and thanks for the update. Understand how these things occur and appreciate your diligence and effotrt in getting this right.

Nice box (not sure why but wasn't expecting a retail box only a bubble wrap and brown cardboard box so bonus lol..) Im a big kid. I like boxes :)

As for the Crying and Whinin I haven't seen any. Know I sent a request for info on an update for UK delivery but certainly no grievance.

      Can't wait /;)

Once again, I must ask - where do you see "cryin and whinin"? I don't see it as complaining to ask for an update on progress.
