Hi Eric
Thanks for your feedbacks, we are glad you liked it and we will keep your feedback in mind in the future, hope you have a great day.
I've had my pen for a while now and here are my thoughts...
While I like this pen very much (it's length, material, and dual-purpose all elicit positive attention, and it's a pretty great Jason Bourne-type self-defense aid if necessary!), I do have a couple of issues.
The weight is a bit too heavy for comfortable writing. And there is very little area in which a decent grip can be maintained. I find if I'm not gripping the 3 little grooves right above where the pen screws in, then the whole thing slips through my hand when pressure is applied to the writing surface. I wound up pulling off the grey grip from a Bic Brite Liner highlighter and putting it on the PHX-1. It's the closest match to the metal appearance I could find... and it makes a world of difference. Still, it does mar the overall sleekness of an all-metal pen.
Also, while my pen cap is fine, the cap to the x-acto blade needs to be screwed on extra-tight otherwise it gets wiggly. But by really tightening the cap, I find that it tends to unscrew the blade fastener as well when I try to take it off.
Hope the feedback helps your next generation of pen!
Hi everyone, if you have any issues just shoot us an email at support@bigidesign.com and we will do our best to help. Thanks again for everyone's support.

@don I emailed Chadwick and Joe re the pen cap and received a very quick response. Let them know!
@Don I have the same problem with one of my caps.
@Don: I had the same problem with one of my extra pens, so I used a metal drill to correct it. Now it works just fine.
Anyone else have a problem with the pen cap for the PHX-1 not actually fitting when the pen is in it?
The inside of the cap for the pen-only is the same size as the cap on the PHX-1, but the inside is carved out about twice as deep.
Hi Christopher,
Thanks for your comments, we will keep them in mind for the future. Have a great day.

Hello.
I've had the pens for awhile now and I just want to give you some constructive criticism.
The no.11 blades wiggle back and forth when pressure is applied. The only way I've found to fix this is by pushing the blade down to the thickest point. But what happens is that the cap scrapes the blade.
My other note is that the pens are way way too heavy for every day use. Cutting the weight in half would still make the pen too heavy.
Regardless, I still really like the phx1 and they are a welcome addition to my pen collection. Sadly they won't see much use due to the weight and how unpractical they are.
sorry about the typo below. we meant "snug" not slug. :-)
Hi Alex,
Thanks for your question. The hobby knife part was cut using a laser and will be slug on purpose the first few times you use it because it's new. Try using the blade to separate the cut pieces apart enough so you can put the blade in. Feel free to unscrew and separate the knife part from the pen. That may be easier. Email us at support@bigidesign.com if you need anything else.

I received the set and bought some #11 X-ACTO Blades, but I feel like I am missing something. I just can't figure out how to secure the razor? The grooves are far too small and I can't seem to get them wider.
Hi Everyone,
We are so glad to hear everyone is loving the PHX-1's & extra PHX-Pens!
We want make some thing clear about the cap on the knife end of the PHX-1.
The X-Acto blade side/cap needs a blade inside in order expand the threads enough for the cap to screw on tight. Pop a X-Acto #11 blade inside and you will be good to go.
-Chadwick & Joe
Don't think I ever received a tracking number, so when my pens arrived yesterday, it was MORE of a pleasant surprise! Great weight, nice machining. Don't have an Xacto blade to test that section yet, but so far quite happy with the quality!
I have received my set but, the threads are slipping at the X-acto blade side. I am unable to screw down the cap. Please let me know if I can have a replacement. I'll upload a video to demonstrate, if needed.
I should also mention, that I received an extra pen in a cloth pouch. I don't remember paying for the extra pen. I wanted to add extra pen, but never took time to go and change my pledge.
....or may be I did??
I was able to put mine to use today and absolutely love the weight of it. I couldn't help but show it off in studio today.
Thanks again for making such a great product. Can't wait for the hubs!
Just got my PHX 1 + Xtra pen in the mail. Love it! I am really happy with the outcome and look forward to your future products!
PHX-1 Set just came in. It is beautiful. Feels great in my hands. Marvelous job.
Hi Timothy,
Correct, the X-Acto blade side/cap is needs a blade inside in order expand the threads enough for the cap to screw on correctly. Pop a X-Acto #11 blade inside and you will be good to go.
-Chadwick & Joe
Hey I don't know if it's just me or what, but, will the blade cap not screw in right unless there's a blade in it? Because my blade cap screws in and leans to one side.
Hey guys. Received my PHX 1 and pens. Again wonderful job. They look great. Couldn't be any happier.
just confirming that the issue I had was a bad blade and not an issue with the tool set. thanks guys.
I forgot to say - I was very pleased to see that it had been posted to me from within the UK - from your posts I'm assuming that they weren't manufactured in the UK (chiz) so good work on using a distribution/fulfillment channel: there are projects with much larger backer numbers who could learn a thing or two from you guys.
Chadwick & Joe,
My pens just arrived in the morning mail - they look gorgeous overall. One small blemish, the left-hand end of the ruler is a bit rough and word "pica" only has its "a" present :-(
That aside, I've popped a refill in and will be using it today :-)
Chadwick and Joe:
I got my pens today, and they look really great. Congratulations on a successful project.
Cary.
awesome. glad to hear it!
I got my PHX-1 in the mail today (in Australia) and I am very impressed especially with the build quality!
Hi Zac,
Thanks for letting us know your problem was just a bad blade. Glad to hear everything worked out fine.
-Chadwick & Joe
Hi K Bowers
Tracking number sent to your email box on 13-Jan, please check your email and track your package, thanks.
got mine today.. pretty cool, but x-acto blades will not seat all the way in.. this is a problem.
Still no delivery. How can I get a status? Thx K
Just received my shipment email. Woohoo!
Hi Chadwick & Joe,
Thanks for your reply - survey filled in and looking forwards to using the pens.
Hi Chadwick and joe. I am so excited to support your project and can't wait to receive my pen and 2 (non knife) pens. If you include mini business marketing cards, I'll pass them along to interested parties. I'm so happy to read you guys are taking steps to deliver the product quickly.
What's your next project?
Hi sgllama,
We wanted to let you know that if you do not feel comfortable providing your contact phone number, you can leave it blank. Thanks again.
-Chadwick & Joe
Hi sgllama,
Thanks for your question. We will be sending out rewards to people in a lot of different countries and our shipping agent has requested that we get contact numbers from our backers. Right now we do not know where everyone lives and wants the rewards shipped to so we need to collect this info from everyone to provide better and faster service for our backers. This is so the shipping carrier can have a way to contact you or others in case your package has a issue or something. Also because some carriers require us to provide this info to sent packages to certain areas and countries, we need to collect this info from everyone at one time if we do need to use it to get you and everyone their rewards. We hope this better explains why we need it. Thanks for your understanding and support. We look forward to getting the rewards out to everyone. Have a great day.
-Chadwick & Joe
Hi
Just received the survey notification...
Are you *sure* that the shipping carrier requires a 'phone number? I know that some carriers' online label printing forms have an entry for this but they are not all mandatory (I know you're not in the US, but as an example the USPS apparently does this and many conversations occur about it on various KS pages). To date, not a single package I've received from anywhere has ever used 'phone contact - customs, "we tried to deliver but you were out" etc messages have always been via the post.
If we *really* need to give out 'phone numbers then so be it, but...
Congrats on the successful funding of your project, looking forward to my tool and extra pens.
Happy New Year!
Congratulations guys. Looking forward to receiving my PHX1 in the New Year. Happy New Year to you both.
Hey Tobster, Yes. the PHX-1 demo video shows just the pen being used without the knife blade or back cap on during the first half of the video. http://vimeo.com/31677971 You can feel free to mix & match the parts how you wish and leave any extra parts in the case while not in use. Thanks again for your continued support!
-Chadwick & Joe
Hey guys, glad to be supporting another project of yours. I love the idea and have a question. Is it possible to use the pen withouth both the Knife and Knife End cap ?
Hi Nick, great idea. I'm sure it is possible & it sounds like a cool mod project. But for transparency, the PHX-1 sets will come "as advertised" this time around. The project is subject to slightly change if mass production forces us too tweak some things. We will keep you and all the other backers up to date on any & all changes with the project. Thanks for your great suggestion & good luck with school.
Very nice guys! I am an Architecture student at Kansas State University and I dig it!
Would it be difficult to allow the ruler to fit into a slot on the box to become a t-square? Just an idea. Thanks for the great innovation!
