About this project
- What is it: a Twitter widget that can be added to your website, blog, or Facebook profile
- Why build it: default widgets provided by Twitter are too limited
-
How is it different: there are 5 key differences that make Tweet Blender unique:
- It supports multiple sources as inputs: @screennames, #hashtags, keyword searches, @twitter/lists
- It supports advanced filtering: exclude tweets with bad words, exclude certain users, show/hide replies, and much more
- It has a unique caching system that works around Twitter's API connection limits
- It does not require Flash
- It uses native administration tools of each platform to manage widget configuration
Tweet Blender (http://tweet-blender.com) is an open source widget that allows to mix twitter streams from different people, hashtags, search results, and Twitter lists into a single conversation.
There is currently a widgetbox.com version and a popular WordPress plugin.
A growing community is providing great feedback and people are submitting ideas for improvements and new features via Facebook fan page and GetSatisfaction support site.
After just 1 year in existence, the widget is currently installed on over 6000 sites and is shown to almost 1 million people every day.
This fund raising effort is focused on enhancing and improving the WordPress version of Tweet Blender.
New features planned:
- better support for user interface customization: colors, sizes, fonts, scrolling, etc.
- better control over archive: ability to remove individual tweets from the archive DB, pagination on the archive page, etc.
Why Kickstarter?
I want to make a great widget and keep it FREE. Most investors want a solid revenue model and a proof of the idea. While 6,000 users is a good enough proof, the revenue model is still TBD.
Rather than work out and test different revenue models, I want to focus all my time and attention on developing the best software that will have features that users really need.
