About this project

[NOV. 3, 2011 UPDATE: The final day of the campaign! Please help us sprint across the finish line by pledging any amount, small or large. Your continued generosity will have a direct impact on our progress developing the new space. Please take these final hours to spread the word. As always, we thank you for supporting The Lobster!]

[OCT. 27, 2011 UPDATE: Today marked our passage beyond the $15,000 goal. But we cannot stop here! With less than a week remaining, we ask for your support to reach $20,000. Greater funding means more space improvements, and ultimately, KML opening its doors to you—our loyal fans—sooner than planned! Thanks for your pledge.]

Killing My Lobster has finally found the perfect location to build a premier  theater space. A project which brings to an end 15 years of wandering from theater rental to theater rental. The space resides in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission district on 24th and Mission St.

The new venue would be a creative hub to hundreds of artists including actors, writers, choreographers, musicians, stand-up comedians and whoever else requires a theater for their production. Killing My Lobster also needs a versatile work space to allow them to expand the classes they make available to the community.

But the clock is ticking, as KML must acquire enough funds to secure the lease and move-in overhead in the next 2 months. And our goal is to have the theater operational by February of 2012 for a show celebrating our 15th birthday (February 14th, 1997).

This first $15,000 will go to securing the space and initial renovations. It is the first step towards the estimated $150,000 we will need to convert this former fabric store into a fully operational theater. KML is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation – so your contribution here will be Tax Deductible.

Included is a rough drawing of what the space will look like once built out. As you can see, it will be amazing. The new space would include an expansive performance space with the front portion of the space functioning as a cafe/bar while the back areas would be built out for use as a scene-shop, greenroom, and offices that would double as classrooms.

This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who has ever been interested in supporting the arts to get in on the ground floor!  Thank you again for your support.

On February 14th, 1997, the first Killing My Lobster show was performed in a 35-seat theater in a building on 14th and Valencia. Killing My Lobster was born in the Mission district of San Francisco. Since then, this comedy troupe has performed in over a dozen different theaters around the Bay Area making thousands of people laugh, guffaw and giggle.

Why have they performed at so many different spaces? And why has an audience worked so hard to follow them everywhere? Because Killing My Lobster, even after 14 years of success, still does not have a permanent performance space. They still don’t have a home. That is, until now.
