Dear folks and friends,
Break out the champaign! Today we reached the goal of $1750 towards printing mine and Joe Lee's picture book, The Three Eyed Dragon! In fact, pledges keep coming in, and as I write this we've raised 120% of the goal! That is particularly good news since the $1750 was just half of what is needed to finish the whole kit and kaboodle.
As you may know, this book is inspired by my song of the same title, that also is being released on April 1, 2012 (no foolin!) on Kid Kazooey & The BallRoom Roustabouts' CD, Umpteen Moons. [NOTE: Umpteen Moons is no exaggeration! We recorded the first several tracks for this CD in December of 2002! But families, babies, band drama, and day jobs have slowed the whole thing down. I should name our next recording 1.5 Weeks and see how long it takes to record THAT!] Well, it will cost $450 to get 300 of those printed.
I've also scheduled a Book/CD Release dance party, free to the public, on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at The Fountain Square BallRoom in Bloomington, Indiana. It costs $450 to rent that room. [NOTE: Please consider that event as the most exciting option for you to pick up your Kickstarter Reward! The band will not only play The Three Eyed Dragon to a video of the illustrations from the book, but will also perform the entire CD from beginning to end! I'd love to be able to acknowledge all of us who have helped fund this project, so please try to attend!]
Last expense is the band! The BallRoom Roustabouts have been a band for nearly 17 years now! The line up for the gig on 4/1/12 includes 9 musicians besides myself! While the regular Rousta-Roster includes 6 of us these days, for this show we're adding a 3 piece horn section! I'd really like to guarantee that they will each go home with a modest $50 honorarium in appreciation of not only months of rehearsal for this gig, but years of service in general! That adds up to an additional $450!
That all adds up to $1350. If we don't raise it all through kickstarter, hopefully enough othe folks will attend the release party and purchase the products then and there and that will cover those expenses. If we DO raise it all through Kickstarter, then any extra money can be invested in the next book and CD!!
Thank you all once, twice and thrice again. Your generosity reminds me how I'm nothing other than a guy who plays some songs WITHOUT YOU! Its YOU ALL that are to be celebrated and deserve to feel like a rockstar! I'll see you Sunday, April 1st, and we'll all share as many unforgettable life changing moments as can be had in 90 minutes!
Love ya big much,
Thank you so much to all who have pledged so far. We are 39% closer to our goal! Now, I happen to know everyone who has pledged personally, most of you are even close friends. That is super, but now I need you to help me spread the word to get more folks who don't know me but may find this project of particular interest and make a pledge!
Would you all mind using your Facebook accounts to tell your network of friends about the project? You can reference the project with this url: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kidkazooey/the-three-eyed-dragon
I'll make a poster with a QR code linked to the same url and have it front and center at my monthly Max's appearance. MAYBE, I'll make a quick video with the recorded track of the song in sync with the pics, to show 'em what they're supporting with their pledge!
