It's been a while since we updated you as to the happenings; and much has happened since last we dated-you-up. Most notably: we played a 2 hour show of cover songs that YOU chose for us, and we're now mastering the album, meaning we are almost done!
Last week, I spent a day with Fred Kevorkian (http://www.kevorkianmastering.com/) at his mastering studio (photo below). He has an amazing resume of clients ranging from The Walkmen to Willie Nelson to The White Stripes. The experience of listening to our tracks in a proper mastering studio was incredible! We are compiling notes on the mastering that Fred presented us, spending some time listening, and doing everything we can to ensure that YOUR listening experience will be clear and awesome as possible!
We are currently still undergoing continual debate about what to actually NAME the band and the album. Many ideas we've come up with are already taken by other bands, so it's a tough journey. We may still call the band "Kevin Johnston Band" - we may end up calling it "Dark Needs Light"... or even "Magic Johnston"(!!!) Though we want to find the perfect name for our art, we hope to reach a decision about this as soon as possible (any ideas out there?) and certainly will do so before the release.
We have also met with the CD manufacturing company Oasis and looked at what options we have for the physical pressing and packaging of CDs, which is very tangibly exciting. In looking at artwork for the record, we are considering some work from local artists and graphic designers - and even some artwork of … MINE!
I've attached a video of us playing a cover of Kansas' "Carry On My
Wayward Son" - chosen by backer Christine Mellin! Enjoy this snippet of
an amazing evening that would never have happened without your support
via the delightful magic of Kickstarter. Please note Kirk rocking guitar AND PIANO! We'll make recordings of
that entire "Cover Boy" show available soon. You can watch us playing Poison by Bel Biv Devoe (chosen by backer Eli Thomas) here: http://bit.ly/lKiObv
Exciting things to come as we close in on completing this sucker! Thanks so much for making it all possible.
