About this project
Unless we have a last minute miracle, we won't make our goal. However, we are continuing on with the project! Time With Leonard will be written no matter what, it just might take a little longer than we had hoped.
For those of you who have pledged or wish to pledge, please consider making your donations at salvationmountain.bbnow.org. This is a much simpler way to donate with your credit/debit card through Paypal. Those of you who have already pledged can receive the rewards offered here by making your donation at the above listed site.
I'm working on a new website for the book. Nothing is over! We're just getting started!
Thank you all so much for your support. We had over 40 pledges and that means a lot to us. Please keep us in your prayers and keep an eye on Leonard's Facebook page!
Time With Leonard tells the story of Leonard Knight's life while creating Salvation Mountain including deeply moving experiences with visitors by day and being robbed by local residents by night.
We'll explore the conclusions Leonard has reached as the result of his very unique relationship with God and over a million conversations with believers, non-believers and random travelers. Leonard shares his experience of 28 years of contemplation while engaged in back-breaking hard labor in the Colorado Desert of Southern California, one of the hottest places in North America.
Time With Leonard
is also about my own experiences with the man, the insights I have
gained and my own conclusions. Personal stories of love and inspiration along with jealousy and sabotage help to define the complexity of life with a man whose favorite slogan is, keep it simple.
On the first day of October, 2009, I arrived at Salvation Mountain and met Leonard for perhaps the 15th time. He didn't remember me, but he welcomed me like an old friend. Anyone who has ever met Leonard Knight feels a personal connection to him. Leonard is a very rare soul who represents love, beauty and art with every breath. He makes everyone feel welcomed and cared for with his broad smile and words full of joy.
As of this writing, I have been Leonard Knight's daily companion and assistant for nearly 2 years. Being the first person to spend so much consecutive time with Leonard since his arrival at the site where he would create Salvation Mountain, I have a unique and unexpected perspective on the life he has led, the message he has given and the conclusions he has reached while creating the most impressive body of Visionary Art ever.
There will also be an accompanying website featuring collected links, video, photography, and personal stories not included in the book. The site will include discussion forums, live chat sessions with the author and Leonard (health permitting).
This project represents unparallelled access to one of the world's leading, living artists. We hope that you will support this effort and, by doing so, help Leonard spread his message of Love everywhere to a world that needs it more than ever.
FAQ

The video that accompanies the opening segment of Leonard and I talking about the book was created by Jon Furtado of Palm Desert, California. Jon is an outstanding filmmaker who visits Salvation Mountain. Please see his work at www.jonfilms.com
He captured Leonard and his message with more clarity than I have ever seen and I thank Jon a million times over for letting me use his brilliant and inspired work here on kickstarter.com!
The beautiful music is the work of Composer/Orchestrator, Douglas Edward. His website is www.douglasedward.com
I couldn't have asked for more from either of these geniuses!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! -
I have been told that I should take my book proposal directly to an agent or publishing company instead of presenting it on kickstarter.com. The one sticking point I keep returning to is that I admire the common effort that is involved here. Leonard never cared too much about what people said about his work while he built Salvation Mountain. It was his own, personal expression offered freely to the world. The Mountain became popular because the people who visited and found it important made it happen. In that same spirit of sharing Leonard's work and message with the world, I wish to offer my project to those who choose to participate in it's creation.
I can think of no better way to begin the journey of writing Time With Leonard than to share it. -
I have spent the past 18+ months working with Leonard without pay of any kind.
My personal financial situation allows me to continue my work with Leonard, but little, if anything else. The money I hope to raise through Kickstarter will be used to allow me to write without worrying about leaving Leonard to earn a living while I try to write.
The money will help me with submission costs, travel and living expenses, and, if need be, starting the self-publishing process.
There will also be website design, development and hosting costs.
