Moving South for the Winter!
Besides the fact that it gets unbearably cold up here in New York CIty (and I hate, hate, hate puffy jackets!), I've got some work to do.
For the last three and a half years Songwriting and New York have been synonymous. I am so grateful for every performance experience here - from the subway station to the big stage at The Bell House. It hasn't been easy, but writing and performance are who I am.
With the help of so many wonderful people here in New York (Jalopy Theatre, Alex Battles, Michael Daves, Potion Collective, and Meisner Studio - to name a few) I've been given the tools and confidence to take the next step with my music.
So I'm doing what I swore I'd never do and moving back to the Old Home State (funny how that works, ain't it?)
to Carrboro, NC
to record my first full length album! (and do everything necessary to ensure a successful release and tour).
The songs are shaping up into a cohesive collection that expresses this journey in time as I've graduated, been supporting myself, and have taken a few side routes and detours to arrive at something of what I'm going to call my true writer's voice. For now, anyway.
I can't wait to share these songs with you. The more specific and honest I become, the more universal they are. They're not just for me, they're for you too.
This is what the money will cover:
$1000 - Recording in a Studio (Tracking/Mixing)
$1200 - Packaging (CD Replication/Disc Printing/Cases)
This will not cover everything, especially the tour! But it will help me complete this project and have some products to sell once I'm out there. And then I'll just have to do the dirty work of honing my performance, booking shows, driving the car, sleeping on floors, and being generally charming and wonderful to everyone I meet. Sound like a deal?

Allllll right. Well, one day I met one of my very best friends Celina for coffee. I had just about had a panic attack because I was home for a few days and realized there was no way I could live with my mother again and be happy + productive, even if the lake is beautiful. (No offense, Mom!). Soooo we agreed that Carrboro had a really supported music and arts scene, was totally walkable, and we could go canoe-ing a lot if only only I could find a place to live. Well, that night a room opened up for just the right time frame IN HER HOUSE! Crazy, right? Hey, universe. Keep being awesome.

Yikes. Wellll I met with Nightsound Studios on Friday, who I am planning on recording with. I moved my actual recording budget up to $1600 - but we're trying to do it for under $1500, including mastering. Mastering is a very mysterious process that basically makes the final mix sound professional. This is a real good deal and we're going to be able to record directly onto tape (old school style) because I want naturalness of a live recording, but the clean sound and awesome equipment of a studio. Now - packaging, I'm going for 4-panel eco wallets which will run me about $1050 with shipping, plus an order of tour posters which will be ad addtional $100 - so that's $1150. Which is $2650 total as an ideal and conservative estimate. (Which is almost where we are now).

Well, Kickstarter takes a small percentage for hosting and I'm also fulfilling all of these rewards...so my costs go well above the $2200. SO - if you've been thinking about making a pledge even though the 'goal' is reached, that would help me a lot!
