Kickstarter

Hi. I'm Kayla Oberlin, and I've started this project to integrate my two loves--- music and visual art--- into an exciting project I can share with the world.

I've been painting since I could hold a brush and I've been making music since middle school. In the past three years, I've gone from being a high school kid in a painting class to a working artist. I've played in bands, solo and as support for other awesome performers, and now's the time for me to give a nod to the musicians who've influenced my work and the work of my peers.

The project I'm Kickstarting consists of two "products": the first is an album in which I cover (on the ukulele) songs by ten different musicians; the second is a series of ten portraits of those musicans hand-painted... on ukuleles!

I'm keeping most of the specific musicians I'll be paying tribute to a secret, but you'll find a few clues in my video. I will tell you that I'll be crossing genres and time periods, and I think there will be a little something for everybody in the final product.

I've been on a hiatus from the art world; clinical anxiety stopped me in my tracks. But now that I'm feeling better--- about everything--- I am so excited to re-enter the art scene with this particular project. I've had the idea in the back of my head for more than two years and I know it's time to get it out to where it can be seen by the world. This is only the start of bigger, better and more brilliant things.

As a thank you for helping me actualize the future I want for myself, I have lots of really awesome packages for backers. This is the first time I'm making anything like this, stickers, buttons, posters, t-shirts, and super awesome CDs, so I'm really excited that my first big project is also YOUR first big opportunity to get some actual STUFF from me!
