I want to make a feature-length comedy. The movie is called Concessions, and tells the story of a guy in his early 20's, working in a movie theater.
Hi everybody! Thanks for checking out the project. I hope you can be a part of it!
So here's the deal: I want to make a feature-length film. The movie is called Concessions, and tells the story of a guy in his early 20's trying to break in to the entertainment industry, while dealing with the realities of a crummy job, a crazy girlfriend, and everything else life seems to throw at you during, what I like to call, your "early-life crisis."
I have put together the crew, the locations, the equipment, and the studio, while negotiating for the most rock-bottom prices I could finagle to get this done right. I don't know if anybody checking this out is a filmmaker, but if so, you probably know how impossible it is to get anything done while asking people to work for free. You compromise on talent, schedules, and more while jeopardizing the entire project every time things get frustrating on a shoot day (which is frequent). In the end, if the movie evens gets finished, it's generally a ways off from the original vision.
For all of you non-masochists...sorry, I mean non-filmmakers, out there, I want you to find the worst movie you have ever seen and watch the credits all the way through. You won't believe the raw amount of man-power (and woman-power) it took to make that dung-pile you just sat through for two pain-staking hours.
Now imagine making a great movie. One that people want to see. At a bare minimum, you're going to need the same amount of effort. So many amateur filmmakers make movies for the sake of making movies...and I think that's great, but consider how many times you've seen anything not made by a family member that had a budget below $20,000. What we are going to do with Concessions is break through that ceiling and get this film seen. Why does that matter? Because the most fulfilling thing in the world is getting your creative work out there to the public. The mere act of people taking their time to be touched emotionally, whether in drama or comedy, by something you've poured your heart into, is just about the most amazing thing I can think of.
I would feel really uncomfortable asking for people to help fund a project that I wasn't willing to personally put my own hard-earned bucks on. That's why I gathered as much as I could (which ended up being just about half of the budget needed) on my own. I've done this because I want everyone who is awesome enough to support this project to know that the success of this film is personally critical to me. That's why I refuse to let it find anything but success.
If you made it this far, I really hope you choose to contribute. I can actually say this cliche honestly, and in no uncertain terms...we can't do this without you.
Thanks. :)
