A two-year adventure that laid to rest 25 years of guilt when I stumbled upon passion, peace and morsels of wisdom while sitting still.

.the story

I Think I’ll Make It is a memoir: a two-year window of my life when, at 29, I moved to Hawaii to take a "break" from it all: my failing relationship, my stale career, me. Instead, I was ambushed by the flooding thoughts that loneliness lets in, dredging up haunts from my childhood (including my testimony that sentenced my father for my mother’s murder). Let's just say, the shit hit the fan and I did what I had to; I got on my knees and started scrubbing.

In Hawaii, I lived with my older brother, Ben, and his family, where I struggled to find meaning in all the mess. I found solace in Hawaii’s stunning surf and, as cliche as it sounds, Oprah’s Soul Series, where Oprah & Friends led me to a whole host of spiritual books and onto a path of healing and exploration. And it was in the midst of those books that I begrudgingly began to practice meditation and, despite my wavering attempts, met both my mom and Gma in a realm I never knew existed. It was also in that space of peace where I discovered I can finally forgive and, for real this time, leave the baggage on the belt.

By the time I returned home to Baltimore to finish the cleanup that sadly hadn't tidied itself, I had earned more faith and courage. But before I could begin piecing a new life together, I forced myself to finish what I started by fighting my way through an eleven-day silent meditation retreat, which, in the end, opened the door to a newfound independence and the conviction to pick up a pen and begin documenting the varying shades of hilarity that would become this book.

.purpose

The funding for this project will go toward:

*the final edit

*layout design

*e-book conversion

*printing for initial launch

*a small online marketing campaign through an e-book and social media expert

.intentions

I had no idea when I began to write that this story would evolve into a book encouraging others to also dream. My intentions are that I Think I'll Make It is just the beginning; I have big, big plans ahead (a vlog documentary) to inspire others (with low-grade bullying tactics if I must) to discover their own passions and true meaning by giving them the permission, that somehow was lost, to dream big again.

.many thanks

With heartfelt gratitude, I want to thank you for your support, from me, my team, and all the not-so-hopeless dreamers we will reach!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Thankfully I didn't listen the first time I heard someone say, "Writing the book is the easy part." From where I stood, just ten short months ago, I was just ignorant enough to do it anyway. And these days the publishing world seems like an insurmountable undertaking much like writing a whole entire book did then. You'll be happy to know that I'm smart enough now NOT to tackle this one on my own, which is where you come in.

I have done loads of research about how and where to place my book and in whose hands. I am confident that by working with the pros we will be able to give I Think I'll Make It just the right chance it deserves to find readers and potentially change lives.

Hurdles to overcome: In order to make sure that we can launch this book in the new year and get you all your prizes on time, I will be working tirelessly behind the scenes to get everything ready. The book goes to final edit October 15th; the cover design collaboration will also begin at that time; everything else will roll immediately at the end of our campaign as it takes 4-6 weeks for layout design and e-book conversion.
