I want to create a series of cyanotype images focused around movement and dance.  These images were photographed digitally and will be inverted in order to create a negative.  The printed negative would then be used to create cyanotype prints.  My project would be printed on fabric hand-dyed with the cyanotype solution.  The final images will be on display at the 2013 Spring Saint Paul Art Crawl and other venues to be determined once the work is completed.

Cyanotype photography refers to the process of printing a picture by using sunlight and a series of chemicals. When producing a cyanotype picture, the paper (or other printing medium) is treated with each of the chemicals.  The image is then placed upon treated paper, weighed down with glass and taken out into the sun. The combination of sunlight and chemicals will then imprint the image onto the paper in a dark blue or gray color. 

My interest in photography began as a young child and became more focused in high school.  I deeply enjoyed handling film and working in the darkroom.  While studying photography at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, I developed an allergy to one of the chemicals used in the darkroom that pushed me from film to digital photography. 

I continued working with digital photography, but missed the hands-on process that came with working with film.  In my search to fulfill the desire for such a process, I researched alternative processes and learned about cyanotype photography, which I am not allergic to.
