I've already pledged too much on ED: you're probably an Elite obsessive who has blown more than too much on getting the game funded this month. Jump in for £1 to be kept up to date with plot planning and some sample prose through campaign updates and you can chat with myself and others in the comments before hopefully upping your pledge once the next pay cheque arrives!
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £2 or more
0 backers
Big Issue Backer: you won't get anything but a warm, fuzzy feeling and if the book ever gets printed you'll probably be able to pick up a discarded copy on the London Underground eventually. Plus all of the rewards above.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £5 or more
410 backers
The reader: you'll get to massively inconvenience a load of electrons when the final copy of the ebook is delivered to you. Plus all of the rewards above.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £15 or more
30 backers Limited (170 of 200 left)
Self-promoter: you'll get a mention and web link (subject to it leading somewhere friendly and appropriate) on a special page dedicated to pledgers on my website, and all of the above.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £25 or more
83 backers
Late to the ego-party: you get exactly the same as the limited number 'Attention-seeker' tier but without the in-story mention - sorry, you snooze you lose in this game.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £25 or more
200 backers All gone!
Attention seeker: you'll get a subtle mention at some point during the story. It might be a space-station or ship with your name woven into it, or some incidental and fleeting character not central to the plot. You might also be a disease or a deadly weapons upgrade... it's a lucky dip but you'll be in there somewhere. You'll also get a proper name-check in the credits of the ebook, plus all of the above.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £55 or more
5 backers All gone!
Random input backer: you'll get to suggest a keyword, theme or object that must at some point form a central part of the plot - you know like those improvisation game-shows on TV? You will need to supply this to me by March 2013 so I can work it properly into the plot. This option is subject to your contribution not being deliberately rude or offensive, and you will take full responsibility in the credits, plus all of the above.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £55 or more
5 backers
Creatively challenged enthusiast: you'd like to up your pledge to £55 and want a mention in the credits for being a super cool supporter, but you don't really want to suggest any plot devices, plus all of the rewards above.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £75 or more
21 backers Limited (79 of 100 left)
Slightly stalkerish: you get a signed and personally inscribed 'limited special edition' paperback copy of the book (not related to the stretch print run) including free P&P to the UK (overseas pledgers will have to pay additional fair postage costs), plus all of the above that are not limited numbers plot/character rewards.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Ships within the UK onlyPledge £75 or more
11 backers Limited (39 of 50 left)
Slightly stalkerish (but too far away to be dangerous): exactly the same as the other £75 tier but with international delivery charged on top of pledge amount at cost price.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £100 or more
5 backers All gone!
Digital diva: you'll get to name one of the minor characters and decide on key personality traits (up to a maximum of three). This character could be modeled on you, or be the person you wish you could be. I cannot guarantee they won't meet a gruesome end, although they might equally do rather well for themselves. You will need to let me know the name & traits by March 2013 so that I can write them into the plot properly. This option is subject to your contribution not being deliberately rude or offensive, and you will take full responsibility in the credits, plus all of the above that are not limited numbers plot/character rewards.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £100 or more
9 backers
Creatively challenged superfan: you get all of the non-plot/character input rewards above and your name on a special dedication page at the front of the ebook to show how eternally grateful I am for your outright generosity and faith in my storytelling ability.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £101 or more
15 backers All gone!
Nosy parker: you'll get invited to a private Google+ Circle (from April 2013) where you can check on my progress and give me feedback on plot & character development, as well as helping me to choose a cover design and other various fun tasks along the way. We'll probably have the odd Hangout at key points during the creative process, but only if you promise to keep all your clothes on and not be too weird, plus all of the above that are not limited numbers plot/character rewards.
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014Pledge £200 or more
3 backers All gone!
Revenge killing: you get to name one of the major characters in the plot in the sure and certain knowledge that they are going to die in a very spectacular and grisly way. You will have to take responsibility for your handiwork in the credits, and I will need written permission from the intended 'victim' if a full identifiable name is to be used. This option is subject to your choice of character name not being intentionally rude or offensive, plus all of the above that are not limited numbers plot/character rewards.

CloudWorld London, eh? Are you going to slip a "write on, Commanders" in there?
Creator Joerg Ritter on April 20
While zapping on the telly, I suddenly thought "I KNOW that voice" ... and sure enough, there you were on BBC telling folks all about social networks, tumblr and stuff (yes, we CAN watch BBC in continental video). Keep up the good work !!

Good news all, Kate had her launch party for "Working the Cloud" last night ,so she will probably be feeling a bit fragile today lol. Anyway now that the book is officially launched and out there, Kate will have more time to devote to the really important stuff like "Mostly Dangerouse". So expect to see her back here working hard in the next few days. Thanks everyone for their patience in the meantime. Rest assuered we have not been forgotten.
Creator Steph Wyeth on March 23
Just four days left for http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/allenstroud/elite-lave-revolution and a film, available to all, approaches - if we can just find a few more backers to help make it happen.... :-)

@Stewart: How awesome is it that we have a best selling author writing our Elite book? Did we back the right horse or what?! ;)

@Kate: Congratulations on "Working the Cloud" rocketing into the Amazon best seller list!

This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

Douglas Adams gets a well deserved Google Doodle.
Had lots of fun playing with it too.
You are missed sir!

OK! Survey all done . Links all bookmarked. I think we are ready for lift off. This is gonna be a great ride!
I already have an idea for the cover!
Creator light487-Tormented Parrot Keeper of OOoE on March 3
What would be a really fun idea for the audio track is to use the "Blue Danube" track for one of the docking sequences, if there is to be a docking sequence of course.. and some humurous quip about the piece of music or indignated piece of conversation about how they can't shut off the darn music and that it plays, in the onboard ship computer, every time they dock.. that kind of thing. :)
Creator light487-Tormented Parrot Keeper of OOoE on March 3
Yup.. I'll just convert it myself..
Creator Gavin Phoenix on March 3
Survey filled in :D
Hope enough people request .mobi so it'll be properly formatted on my Kindle. If not, i'll just convert it myself.
It wouldn't let me put nothing the email address space for the paperback version so I just put in my email address again... In hindsite I could have put N/A.
Creator Carl Agnew [DDF and happy] on March 3
Thanks for the survey. All filled in and submitted. Mostlyharmlessbook.com is already working for me.

Hey Kate,
Just a thought - have you ever actually written up your philosophy of "social"? I'm just now starting to realise how much of an organising principle it is, and while it's clearly as natural as breathing to you, it might just be the greatest gift you can give to the world.
Creator Stewart Forgie on March 1
Nice to meet you Commander Rose. May your voyages in space be filled with adventure and profit!
Creator John Urquhart Ferguson on March 1
Speaking of 2001, did you guys see the kickstarter for an animated film with Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea) doing one of the voices?

Nice music, Kate, well done ;-)
.
And oh my god, Ian Livingstone is in that vid too. I loved those books. I still have the original 1983 German edition of "The Warlock of Firetop Mountain" on my book shelf. I have to get my hands on that app. NOW!
.
And on a final note: Angel Rose sounds very good to me. Do I spot a hidden William Blake reference in that name, or is it just me?
Creator Kate Russell on March 1
You lot might appreciate the 'nod' in this week's webscape.. skip to about 2 mins to jump to it http://bit.ly/webscape669
Also... our lead character has found her name -- it actually came to me in bed at 6am this morning and I had to leap up and check it was original : @CdrAngelRose

Kate this looks like a real good British scifi movie project
Creator John Urquhart Ferguson on February 27
@Kate I'm surprised that people would prompt you to promote them. I have always tried to avoid such behaviour because:
a) I think that would be an abuse of friendship, and
b) I feel that I'd be asking you to go against your journalistic integrity.
I realise that you're famous and all that, but your integrity and professionalism are obvious to anyone that knows anything about you. I know you would never promote anything you felt was bad, but you've always been good about helping people on-line and it feels like people are just abusing that. I think you're absolutely right to put a stop to it. This sort of lazy promotion is just people taking advantage of your good nature.
In summary:
Kate = Good.
Lazy = Bad.

Latest news just in!
Kate Russell was today spotted at the top of the stairs launching paper aeroplanes with cross letters written on them!
Seriously @Kate, now that you have got that off your chest the best thing is to laugh it off. there will always be people who would try to use another's reputation\success for their own agendas. Don't spend a second thought on them. you jave more than enough to think about with your book launch anyway. I know I will not be alone in wishing you every success with it.
Creator Stewart Forgie on February 25
In the best traditions of The Fast Show, "This week Kate will be mostly lying down in a darkened room with a wet flanel on her forehead".
@Kate: Now about my kickstarter project to create a kickstarter request filter.......... :) Just kidding!
Creator Kate Russell on February 25
Tanks @John :)
I feel the need to rant and it seems a safe place to do so here.. I'm usually a very patient person & generous with my time and access to a large audience when I think it's deserved, but since this Kickstarter closed successfully I'm getting really annoyed with the flood of requests, via email, twitter & private messages asking me to promote/share/advertise other people's Kickstarters or Indiegogos... and when I look at their project page - although some of them are good and worthy - I see campaigns that have been running for weeks, with no interaction, no comments, no updates.. basically nothing social about them. Zero effort beyond coming up with the idea, then apparently scoping the funded project pages for some schmuck with the social reach to make it happen for you. This angers me mostly because there are some really good ideas going to waste... but I've had to set a blanket rule now not to look at any more that people ask me to help with as it is just making me too cross.. /rant
Thanks.. needed to get that off my chest somewhere :)

Great backing track choice, and when it comes to audiobook reading style you are spot on!

Hi Kate, just watched (listened) to your 16666 video! It's excellent - can't believe you managed to craft that so quickly - I'd have been working on it for months trying to get all the names in perfectly!
