About this project
Hey everyone,
Many of you will know me from my band, Misery Signals. Chances are I've probably shook your hand, taken a photo, signed any and everything strange you could throw at me (Drivers Licenses and School ID's are a personal favorite) all with a smile on my face. Making new friends is what I love the most about touring, and now it's time to turn to these friends that have supported myself, and my band, throughout the years:
My solo record (titled: Call & Response) is nearly complete, but it's time I face facts. I'm going to need your help in order to finish it!
Being the only member in a band means that rather than splitting expenses 3....4....even 5 ways, I've had to finance this project entirely on my own. Plane tickets, equipment, studio time, etc. have left me completely broke, and in turn has left the album almost hanging in a state of limbo. So here I am, turning to Kickstarter in an attempt to help raise the remainder of the money I will need to finish mixing/mastering the record and get it out for you all to enjoy ASAP!
In appreciation for your support with this project, I’m making some things available for the very first time exclusively to you. On the right hand side of this page you can see all the levels of donation and the gifts available to people who pitch in. There’s something for everyone whether you give a $1 or $1,000. All of it helps and all of it is greatly appreciated.
To protect you from giving money to projects that never get made, Kickstarter.com is an all or nothing proposition. If I don’t reach my fundraising goal of $2,500 you don’t get charged a dime.
So thank you all for taking the time to check this project out and hopefully together we can make this record finally happen!!!

Bio: “Bottom line is I’ve always written music that I’m stoked on, not what everyone else wants to hear. This project will be no different,” says Karl Schubach of Misery Signals fame. The Canadian road-warrior has been hard at work on his progressive and melodic metalcore solo side project Solace since 2008 and is anticipating on releasing a full-length record in the near future. “When Misery Signals is off tour, I’m in my home studio every day recording new versions and demos of these songs. It’s been consuming my life as of late,” explains Schubach. “All these songs I’ve written are a collaboration of riffs that just simply wouldn’t fit into the world of Misery Signals.”
Schubach proves to be a versatile musician mastering more than the strong guttural vocals he’s known for that has taken him around the world and back. Equipped with an 8-string Ibanez RG2228, Schubach lays down ultra low and heavy driving chords layered with dynamic and graceful melodies, while programming drums through Toontrack software's Superior Drummer 2.0; delivering a wall of voluptuous instrumentation. Also utilizing his own powerful vocals he voices passionate lyrics on life experiences that he hopes will "hit close to home" with many of his potential listeners.
“Part of the reason this album is taking so long to come out is the sheer fact that I’m my own worst critic,” admits Schubach. Through thick and thin of writing the Solace record he assures that the objective of, “being able to create, play and, most importantly, share music that’s 100% my own,” remains unwavering. -Suzie Lee, 2010
