Update #1: Round-The-World Song Relay
Hello everyone, I am inviting you to "attend" a unique event next Friday which is the final day for my Kickstarter fundraiser. Let's celebrate! We are filling up 24 hours nonstop your renditions of Karl Blau songs on September 30th. Here's how it works: sign up NOW for a time slot on September 30th from 12:01am to 11:59pm in which you will post/perform your version of one(or more) of Karl Blau's songs. The song will be of your choice from Blau's catalog in an environment of your choosing. For your time slot you may either share the song with the public via a pre-recording on YouTube/Facebook, etc. as an audio or audio/video link or you may just play it out into the ether to some friends or by your lonesome. You have total creative control. Also, you may choose any time slot you wish through the day, just let me know and if you want to tell me the place/setting/link that would be great as well. Sign up by e-mailing me ( thekarlblau@yahoo.com ) or messaging me through Facebook or here through this Kickstarter.com page. I will post people's names on the roster (my Kickstarter.com page) as they sign up -- everyone is welcome. Thank you for all your support, everyone. We're gonna make this happen! ~karl
If anyone wants to read this or cut and paste it anywhere, the following is the "official press release" composed by agent Lunsford, thank you for all of this, Bret!
Karl Blau is staging a global music marathon as the days count down on his kickstarter.com grant deadline. Since September 1, 2011, he has raised over $5,000 with 100 pledges toward the goal of the $16,000 necessary to complete his KELP project. He must make the balance by September 30th or lose it all. Blau, a prolific and innovative songwriter and musician, has traveled the world performing for the past decade. Not many people have written 24-hoursworth of critically acclaimed songs; Karl has won many fans in the process of doing just that. Not on a mass production line, but hand-crafted and idiosyncratic gems featured on 39 solo albums and many more with other artists. On the final day of Blau’s kickstarter.com push, a Round-the-World Song Relay will, hopefully, sustain the momentum necessary to reach the make-or-break $16,000 goal. Dozens of Karl’s fans and friends are lined up to perform every hour on the hour from Blau’s vast repertoire. Somebodies, nobodies, and Karl himself will interpret, broadcast, or simply strum and sing. The idea will be realized with a Blau song being played somewhere on the planet every minute, be it in concert in Brooklyn, karaoke in Madrid, or on a radio show in Tokyo. Some of the songs will be documented and downloadable, while others are streamed live internationally. All of the details can be found at Kickstarter.com and at Blau’s Kelplunacy.com websites, where people are encouraged to sing a Blau song, pledge a few bucks, or do both.

Tooting my own horn of experience: including both solo and various group performances I've played over 1,000 shows spread over 4 continents, recorded over 24 hours of my own music and engineered/produced and recorded dozens of albums for others. I've performed/recorded in D+, The Microphones, EARTH, Laura Veirs, LAKE, Arrington deDionyso, The Bundles, Jim White, Angelo Spencer Et Les Hauts Sommets, and Bright Black Morning Light to name a few.
A LITTLE PERSONAL...
In the northwest of Washington State I grew up with the potential to be a 4th generation oyster farmer, but then traded in my pearls for music notes. I've been writing and recording music for over 20 years now. Currently I have a day job making underwater microphones (hydrophones y'all!) which is only part time -- and which is great because it gives me time to do my thing -- music!
Big changes are afoot in my household. As well as an artist I am a husband and a father. My wife, daughter and I am expecting another child in October, so that means the once vital touring lifestyle I've managed for 9 years is no longer valid. And it's perfect timing because my mind will most likely explode with albums full of songs if it gathers any more inspiration! And that could be messy.
Karl, I don't know how much good it will do, but I've posted Bret's "press release" to Molly's and my Facebook page; we're not really into Facebook that much, but maybe it will be just enough to nudge someone else over the edge. Also, I'm gonna pick out and sing out loud to myself a couple of your songs on Friday to help the spirit along. Take care, Richard
