About this project
Genderfantasy! is queer glamour. Kaj-anne Pepper directs a theatrical dance exploring physicality, identity and power. A dance where four dancers invoke, contain and release a multitude of relationships and identities in a spellbinding surreal drag show. Weaving together sound collage, movement, video and an installation with Fliptography flip book technology Genderfantasy! is a multi-sensory ritual at the crossroads between man and woman, human and spirit, glamour and realness.

We need your support! This is my first time producing a project of this size and I am so excited to bring you my vision. It is a lot of hard work and takes money and supplies to pull off a successful performance. Help us cover the costs of rehearsal space, make up (a key element in the visual environment of this piece), costumes, video editing, and support the dancers for their generous and dedicated work! We are trying to raise 2,500 to cover these costs as well as hiring skilled Fliptography technicians to immerse themselves in the video/mechanical installation aspect of the show. They are there so we can guarantee each attendant a complimentary flipbook. More importantly they are there to cultivate fun, glamour and set the tone for the evening by dressing up and creating live interactive installation! I am also fundraising to be able to offer everyone on my crew as close to a living wage as possible, support local PDX artists and inspire further professional collaborations.

For Genderfantasy Fliptography.net is collaborating on an installation conceived by Kaj-anne Pepper to enhance the excitement and concept of image, gender and identity. Each attendee will have an opportunity to make their very own flipbook before the show and receive their flip books after the show is finished!

I'm glad you asked that! Yes there will be nudity and Genderfantasy is dealing with some interesting and exciting subjects, namely sexuality and power and those two can mix in some risque ways. But the nudity in Genderfantasy is about the beauty of the human body not about graphic sexual dynamics. I'll let you be the judge of what is appropriate for your kids.

Kaj-anne Pepper is a performance artist, dance maker and drag artist living in Portland OR. Kaj-anne Pepper cut his teeth performing with the notorious alternative drag troupe Sissyboy. He toured NYC, TX, and CA with his collaborative art band The Genderfluids. He has danced for numerous PDX choreographers like Linda Austin, Tahni Holt and Mizu Desierto Butoh Theatre. Recently he collaborated and co-directed two showings of Hildegard Von Bingens masterpiece "Ordo Virtutum" with classical singer Stephen Marc Beaudoin and multi-instrumentalist Ben Landsverk. He blends performance art, installation, sound collage, video, drag and choreography into a multi-sensory performance experience. His work explores the intersections of queer identity, entertainment, authenticity and the body. His work is visceral and exciting,visually propelled and utilizes many mediums while being grounded in movement and dance arts. His work has been presented at Performance Works Northwest, The Mark Woolley Gallery, Ten Tiny Dances for PICA's T:BA festival, the Richard Foreman festival and more!
