We're thankful for many things today:
A supportive local arts community, good coffee, family and friends, talented cast and crew, festivals that program us, and patrons of the arts (ie: YOU!).
So where is Death To Prom as of today? You probably would like to know when the movie will be out in the wider world, yes?
Matt and I are still working hard on several things to make that happen as soon as possible.
A quick recap: we finished the post-production and soundtrack licensing/mixing/etc in late June. Submitting to festivals can take up to six-months of lead-time. We've submitted to several and have shown at Flyway, Sound Unseen, and Indy LGBT Film Fest. We don't necessarily think six more months of waiting around is optimal so we are moving to get the film out in early spring (but will take part in any festivals in the meantime).
What's left to do:
- disc mastering (dvd/BR)
- bonus content
- show bookings
- school outreach
- promotion/marketing/advertising (blogs, shares, etc)
We need to get the film translated into as many languages as possible before launch or it will cost us the full amount again for re-submission if we did any updates later. We need to compile and package the bonus content and commentary tracks, we need to create the menus and chapters for the discs/streams, and we need to plan and build the marketing/advertising (such as it is, YOU can help!) for the release.
This stuff is time-consuming and hard to do, which is why so many filmmakers never make a second film. We're up for the challenge, however!
When you get some free time, check out the recent media coverage of Death To Prom in the paper and on public television!
