A collection of shorts stories about my time as an Infantry Platoon Leader in one of the most dangerous provinces in Afghanistan.

In the fall of 2010 I was deployed to Uruzgan, Afghanistan as a Massachusetts National Guard Infantry Platoon Leader.

While there I maintained a blog that chronicled the stories of my deployment. I wrote stories about my place in the war, I wrote stories about the people I would meet, and the consequences of everything that was happening while it was happening. Sometimes I used humor, sometimes I used sincerity, sometimes I used my anger to fuel the stories I wanted people to read.

Over time I realized that the stories I was telling were reaching and impacting people on a level I never could have imagined. I was routinely encouraged to take what I had to say and make it into something bigger.

So here I am. Collecting the stories, writing the memories, trying to create something that in the process almost destroyed me.

I'm not some rock star. I'm not someone who thinks my time is worth your valuable, hard earned money. So I'm not asking you to donate money to the project so that I can call you and tell you how wonderful you are (even though you are). I am not going to try and extort you out of $50 for a book that only costs $10 to make. The money I'm asking for is going directly back into the publication and production of this collection of stories from the other side of the world, and ensures they can be safely delivered to your hands.

My plan is to have the book finished and in your hands by the end of September. I'd like to have it done sooner, I'm pretty sure I can have it done sooner, but I'm planning for disaster along the way.

My promise to you is that I will put everything into this book. My heart, my stories, and your money. It will be nothing short of everything I can possibly do to live up to the expectations that people have for this project.

Thank you in advance for both the verbal, and financial support you decide to give. Every little bit is appreciated more than you'll ever possibly know.

Slainte,
1LT Justin Rose
