Please help us to make this important film about LGBT youth. Make a difference, donate today
Same Difference is a documentary film about adolescents who experience same gendered attraction or an alternative gender identity (LGBT). Through this film, we hope to provide adolescents with a resource to combat isolation and encourage the acceptance of everyone.
About 9 million Americans identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, let alone the rest of the world. Many LGBT people are children and adolescents, yet there is so little media to support the youth of this community. In order to make this film possible we really need your help.
Filming has just begun but has unfortunately come to a halt due to limited funding. In order to continue this work and ensure this film is made, we truly need your support. Every dollar donated will go directly towards the production, post-production and distribution costs of this film. This project will only be funded if at least $200,000 is pledged by Friday Aug 10, 11:30pm EDT. If less than this amount is pledged, we will receive nothing and this film won't be possible.
If our fundraising is successful, some of the stories portrayed in the film will include, but aren't limited to:
Graeme Taylor is a 16 year old proud, vocal advocate for LGBT rights and equality. In 2010, after standing up for an openly gay teacher in a nearby school district, he was featured on the Ellen Degeneres show.
Justin Aaberg took his life in July of 2010 after suffering years of intolerance and hostility for being gay. Help us to tell his story since he no longer can.
Jazz is an 11 year old transgender girl, and a fearless advocate for equality and visibility. Her story has been featured on 20/20 and Oprah's OWN network.
Seth Walsh committed suicide in September 2010 after suffering years of intolerance and hostility for being gay. California's "Seth's Law" is one of the strongest pieces of anti-bullying legislation in the US today.
Nate Phelps is the son of the Westboro Baptist Church pastor, Fred Phelps. Nate works tirelessly to counter his father's evil messages of hate by sharing love and acceptance for everyone.
Anthony Rapp is an actor who has appeared in multiple films such as RENT, A Beautiful Mind, Dazed and Confused, as well as a variety of hit Broadway productions. He is a passionate advocate for the LGBT community.
Joshua Sweeny and Kyle Wentzel are both graduate film students. They have been developing this film with very limited funds for over a year. Together they are committed to making this film a reality but without your donations it won't be possible. Thanks for your support.
Donate anything you can, every dollar counts. Without your help, this film will not be completed and sadly, many LGBT youth will not have the chance to experience this positive resource.
Together we can make a difference for LGBT youth.
Many of you have asked where are the children of color, and female stories? Please know that our intent is to cover the entire LGBT spectrum with a story from each. We have many lives we plan to cover in what will be a myriad of the LGBT youth experience. The goal is to have each story represent a significant occurrence that most LGBT youth have. For example we will be covering a female of color as she negotiates the experience of life in the African American community. A young child as he or she chooses to come out for the first time to family and friends. As well as several children dealing with their gender identity in a myriad of different social and family settings. The goal is for every child going through an LGBT childhood to see themselves represented in this film and know that there is an entire world out there of children experiencing the same thing. It is our belief that this is the main experience missing for LGBT youth. This isolation is what causes so much harmful emotional and mental strain on a childhood that would otherwise be lived in joy. Thanks for your questons and your support.
