Burning Man is a week-long annual event in the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada. During this time, tens of thousands of people come to the desert with all the supplies they need to survive. They not only camp, but they create theme camps and art installations of epic proportions. At the end of the week, they tear everything down, leaving no trace behind. It takes its name from the ritual burning of a large wooden man. The event is described by many participants as an experiment in community, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance.

There are so many unanswered questions about life and everyone has their own ideas about it. The citizens of Black Rock City seem to operate on a higher (or at least different) frequency than most, so I'm sure they will offer amazing insights into creation, evolution, sex, money, rock 'n roll, whatever feeds into their ideas about why we are here wandering around this place called Earth. What is our significance in the Universe? What does it all mean? This documentary will attempt to answer the insoluble by combining all the various responses, depicting all the individual perceptions. The festival is the perfect place for these discussions because it represents life so perfectly. People come to the festival (birth), build and experience art (life), then leave without a trace (death). Burning Man represents the stages of life so perfectly. So what's the point? What is the meaning and significance behind all of this?

Burning Man and the Meaning of Life is scheduled to begin shooting August 20th, 2011. Filming will last eight days. Post-production will continue for three months. The finished film will be submitted to film festivals around the world in hopes of world wide distribution.

The short film seen here is a short documentary on the Meaning of Life. The feature documentary will be a seamless blend of these themes with the backdrop of the Burning Man festival.

Contributions made here will go toward a total budget of $50,000. An example of use of funds ranges from filming logisitcs, equipment costs, and post production.
