Jewels of the Nile are raising funds for the christening vinyl for their own label, Marquesa Records.
Jewels of the Nile are in the studio recording 4 new songs for a summer 2012 EP release! This newest release will be the christening vinyl for their own label, Marquesa Records.

The duo, Jessy DeLaurentis and Meghan Scanlon, have been making their signature brand of electronic music together since early 2010. They've already released a 7” split single with their friends Soft Metals in 2010 (now out of print), and a debut full-length album PLEASURE released in 2011 on Desire Records in Paris, France with a cassette version on their U.S. label, Sweating Tapes.

Jewels came together while performing in their predecessor band Magick Daggers. Jessy, who has taken on the singer/songwriter role in bands since her teens, was also a founding member of the San Francisco femme fatal garage synth band Subtonix, when she self-released her first single.
The ladies have taken their music on tour several times in the last 2 years traveling from Mexico City to a full European tour (Hartzine interview) complimented with performances in New York City, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Most recently they joined kindred spirits Indian Jewelry on a leg of their tour ending with a performance in Mexico City. Spanish speakers can read about it here.
Currently they are preparing for another tour in Europe for Fall 2012, to support the new release.
About the new label: Marquesa Records
Marquesa's mission is to help artists release their own music. To build an infrastructure of common resources – mastering, manufacturing, PR and tour support – that enables artists to reap all the benefits of their blood sweat and tears. In other words, ensuring the musicians that take part will be the sole benefactors of their own hard work. As much as having an outside label has it’s advantages, the reward of self-releasing and managing the rights to your own music is essential for the artist’s livelihood to continue to make music.
Why The Money and What’s To Be Done With It? Read on:
With the drive they put forward into their music, however, money is much needed to pay for the engineering and production of the new release, as well as the promotional effort to start up the label and the next tour. The plan is to release 250 12”s through Pirate’s Press, and to be able to pay their Producer, Sean Tallen of Stallengrad (another talented starving artist), who is already working hands on with the project for mere gas money. Meghan will be building a website for the label and the artwork will feature collage work by Jessy.
All of this being said, your money would be helping Jewels greatly by covering recording costs, mastering and production, and the creation of one sweet independent female record label get off the ground. We are asking for $2200 in funds, but we know most of our friends are starving artists too and anything we get is so greatly appreciated to make it happen!
