About this project
Look Back/Look Forward is a multimedia project focusing on the combination of "old" technology and "new" art. The end result will be a limited edition 7-inch record containing two new tracks written and performed by a selection of Chicago musicians. The album cover will be printed on a Kelsey tabletop letterpress, and a companion production diary book will be produced in conjunction with the record.
The Music - We will begin the writing and recording process during the fundraising period, so it's hard to say what the sonic outcome will be. The record will have an uptempo side and a downtempo side, and there are no plans to conform to a specific genre. In the spirit of the project, we will be employing old and new instruments, analog and digital recording methods, and traditional and contemporary styles.
The Collaborators - The list of participants will grow as the project progresses. Currently on board are: Joshua Wentz (vocals, piano, many instruments), Jes (vocals and guitar), Alex Kemmler (talkbox and electronica), Emily Martin (french horn), opera singer Kristin Johnston, Niall Munnelly (lots of things), Matt Deming (electric guitar, bass) and Steve O'Connell (guitar and vocals).
The Funding - All of the money raised through Kickstarter will go toward producing and distributing the record. Costs include album mastering, lacquers and plating, record pressing, packaging, printing materials (paper, ink), and shipping.
If we surpass our goal, the additional money will be spent to increase the quality of the end product and reward the collaborators for their hard work.
