The Joshua Light Show is a team of 'live-cinema' artists which employs many of the same original, dazzling analog lighting effects which set the stage for musical artists such as The Who, Jimi Hendrix and The Grateful Dead (among countless others) at the Fillmore East in the later-1960s, where director and founder Joshua White was hired by famed Rock promoter Bill Graham to design the resident light show. More recently, the art world has taken an interest in the Joshua Light Show, resulting in installations at the Hirshhorn, Whitney, Tate Liverpool and others. This led White to reform the lightshow with a team of younger artists—Alyson Denny, Seth Kirby, Ana Matronic, Brock Monroe, Gary Panter, Doug Pope, Bec Stupak, and music director Nick Hallett—to allow contemporary audiences the chance to experience this explosive, ephemeral form. Recent performances include a sold-out run at the Abrons Arts Center, a collaboration with Yo La Tengo at Roseland Ballroom, Lincoln Center Out of Doors with Manuel Göttsching, and Museum of Fine Arts Houston with Silver Apples among others. A book about The Joshua Light Show's days at the Fillmore was recently published by Soundscreen Design.
