About this project
The concept...

Updated 10/3/11: I painted a mural at the Great American Muralist Competition at a large public venue Sept 30-Oct 2. It was a 3-day event of 24 hours painting timr in which each muralist painted win an original acyrlic 40"x60" mural on canvas based on this year's theme "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost.
...central Arizona and Bucks County, PA...in one fantastic mural...

...and yes you can hang it either way!
What is involved?
The mural competition is just the beginning of this venture! Proceeding this amazing event, this show will be like my springboard or "launching pad" to running a full-time mural/pet portrait business and become a positive leader to communities who could use more art and murals. Schools are either cutting art programs or have none at all, and I want to do my part and bring change. This is where I feel I can make a huge impact. I want to teach art and art workshops, collaborate with other aritsts for unqiue projects, create art and murals in urban and remote locations around the globe, I want to inspire children the value of creative expression. I'm a huge believer that the arts are essential in fostering creative problem solving, which can help children excel in other subjects in school.
The funds received will be exclusively used for travel and marketing. Anything beyond the goal will help me with art supplies for future paintings and redesigning my website.
Your tasty rewards...
Backers will have opportunites to own one of my original southwestern oil paintings, have a commission done, or have a signed print of my "Best Exotic Painting of 2011" above. Paintings/commissions will be completed and shipped free in the US (extra elsewhere) by November 2011. I will also make copies of my most recent mural "Two Paths of Reflection". I will get my art to you as quick and painless as possible! I want the paint to be dry too. I intentionally priced my work to help meet or exceed my goal, and it's usually higher on my website.

One final note...
Meeting this goal will help bring my vision of the arts to children will inspire hope, healing, and foster their creativity to improve their lives and communities. Thank you so much for your support!
FAQ
-
Gosh, it's a toss-up between landscape and animal portraits, I love them both. I also utilize abstraction as it is very freeing too, so I try to put some wild brushstrokes into my work because it feels and looks good.
-
For the glory of art! Really, I found it through web-surfing and so happens it's an opportunity to paint in a challenging and exciting environment, a chance to sell the mural at the auction following the event and half the proceeds goes to a worthy charity, and to learn and meet muralists from everywhere. Plus I love Tucson.
-
Because it's not in a gallery where they double the prices. I price them so everyone can afford my work, as art shouldn't be for one specific group of "high" society. Screw that, art is for everyone. It will also hopefully get me to my goal as well. There's a higher purpose, it's not all about selling art.

Just another goodie and perspective of the event not everyone sees. People find it fascinating watching artists at work, and that's what will happen during the event. If I can find someone who is born a filmaker and wants to do it, that would be great. It's a piece of history worth capturing.

Well I do have some student loans...no the funds are specifically for the project. It will be used for travel, marketing, art materials and the DVD. Anything extra could go to charity, help me travel and teach more, and mural projects. There's never enough money in the arts, I'll think of something!

Exploring the boundaries between the world of nature and the inner world is what drives the creative process. Josh’s favorite style of art is using expressive strokes and limited color palettes to create unique impressionistic works on boards and canvas. He prides on using a restrictive palette of environmentally-friendly, water-mixible oils to provoke a greater color harmony. Overflowing with color and emotion in life and art, his natural abilities to interpret life through music, poetry, and ultimately painting led Josh on a creative path that explored all these elements through his artwork.
Since 1991, Josh has painted impressionist oil paintings of landscapes and animal portraits. He has also been involved with several mural projects, one for a private courtyard in Santa Fe, NM and the other on a mini-school bus in Capitan, NM. Both were life-changing experiences and Josh will continue flexing his mural skills at the Great American Compeition in Tuscon, AZ in late Sept/early Oct. Josh currently resides in Albuquerque, NM.
