Update #4: Oh, damn.

Posted on October 7, 2011

So, first off, here is the bad news: my publisher for this project, Arissa, recently contacted me to say that they are closing their doors in December. This is a bad blow for lovers of radical history as Arissa's recent publications just kept getting better and better. As far as what it means to my book, well...

I do not have enough money to both research this book and print it myself, and even if I did I would have no way to distribute it as far and wide as this history deserves. While I am talking to some other publishers in the next week I haven't yet had an offer that would allow me to write the book that I set out to do.

In a weird twist of luck though my research assistant quit right after the project began. It doesn't sound lucky, but since I wanted every penny raised to go to research her departure meant that I still have all of the donations from this Kickstarter campaign, minus the fees to transfer funds through Amazon. If I do not work things out with another publisher shortly I will begin to return people's money, minus the aforementioned fees.

Sometimes life gives you a good, hard kick. This book has been a bit of a dream of mine for a while now. I have no doubt that it will someday get written, but circumstances seem to be conspiring against it for the time being. That reminds me a bit of the history I have been uncovering lately about the radical animal rights movement- it has taken several beatings and short periods of dormancy, but it always pops back up, determined and fighting. I'm going to do my best to follow that example.

Feel free to e-mail me at veganjoshua (at) yahoo.com for more information. Thank you for your patience and generosity, and please visit www.conflictgypsy.com to see all of the great things we have been archiving lately.

With love,

Josh

Update #2: Almost done.

Posted on June 24, 2011

Holy cow, I have the biggest homework project ever. 6 days until this Kickstarter ends, and as you can see it is funded. Amazing! Scary!

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has donated, but first- please consider sharing this project with your friends one last time. I aimed low when I set the amount thinking I would never be able to raise $5,500. Well, that amount was met weeks ago, and it wouldn't hurt to have a little more to help with the costs of all the research coming up.

On to the thanks! Old friends, new friends, and perfect strangers have all come together to make this project a reality. All of you will be getting individual thanks, but I wanted to let everyone know as a group that my heart is swollen with pride knowing that you have faith in me to share the history of this revolutionary movement for non-humans. My appreciation can't fit into mere words, so expect big hugs or awkward arm punches when I next see any of you.

Update #1: Everyone who donated is awesome!
