Just got mine hand delivered today! The postal worker almost didn't want to leave it on the porch because it was so windy he was afraid it would blow away. Glad I was home. So delicate and beautiful. Thank you for this wonderful artwork. Happy New Year!

@Philip - I was using an off-the-shelf par can style lighting unit from Chauvet. These are intended for DJ's, clubs, architectural lighting, etc. I believe I was using the SlimPar 56... There are MANY choices out there, though. Just google "LED par can"... Some you can program the light color directly in the unit while others require connection to a DMX controller to configure the LED output.

If you want further detail, we can certainly take this off-line if you provide me a contact email... Or contact me directly through one of the websites listed in my people (click my name to see my profile).

      Thanks for the feedback!

Craig, looks great. Where did you source the LEDS? Is that a self-contained lighting unit?

Here you go, Josh.... and everyone.... taking pictures of LED lighting in a dark room is not my specialty.... and I'm using an iPhone, so not all the fancy extras for low-lux camera shots...

I will say that these pictures do NOT do the actual effect justice. It looks freakin' gorgeous when lit up via LED....

Here's the link (shortened) to my dropbox gallery with the Crania pictures:
      http://bit.ly/sIUbuz

Feedback and questions welcome. I only had a few minutes to try this and get some shots, so I'm sure I could make things look even better.... but, if you have access to the lighting, definitely give this a shot and you'll be blown away.

As others have mentioned, I received my large skull today. Very nice! I hope to try underlighting it with a small LED par can in the coming days and see how it looks. If its worthwhile, I'll snap some pics or a video and make it available here. It might inspire some others to try some similar display techniques for their skulltupres.... :-)

      Thanks Josh!

      Hi Joshua,

As we wait for funds to be released to you and printing to begin....maybe a quick update with some of the production process details to tide us over? Thinking stuff like time it takes to print each size, how many can be produced in parallel, will the entire run be done at once or will your fab shop require you to batch things so that other jobs aren't backed up because you sucked up all their capacity, etc.

Any of these nuggets of info would be interesting to know, further our own knowledge of various prototyping and production options for those of us who are DIY/maker types, and give us an idea of the sheer printer time required to execute sculpture rewards that far exceeded your original expectations.

      Thanks!

It's definitely doable I just didn't offer the other materials in this project because of the costs. Next offerings will likely be in bronze & stainless steel. Also looking into silver, glass, & ceramics. I'll keep you posted.

@Joshua - would definitely love to see other rendering material options you are able to make available in the future. Keep this under consideration and let us know if and when this becomes doable.

Very excited! My bday is Nov 2 - 'Dia de los Muertos', so I have an affinity towards this type of art. This will be a great addition to my selection of original works. I read up on SLS, and see it can be done with glass. Any thoughts to a similar project in glass?

the multi-color would be awesome but I have yet to experiment with that. There happens to be a "color changing" paint (called chameleon paint no less) that works something like a prism in that it reflects different colors depending on which angle you're looking at it from. I may try that in the future. Unfortunately it won't be available for this run, sorry :(

      Hi Joshua, 2 things.
      1. Can you do the multi colored crania for the $25 option as pictured on your T-shirt? I would really love to ask for this option please...am willing to wait at end of queu for this :-) !
      2. I didnt add the international shipping as stated in update #2 as I saw an update #3 for international shipping updates but could only view the update *after* i pledge. But it seems like update #3 refers to #2, so how to add my shipping charges now that i have already paid?

every sculpture is basically be #1 of the edition since they are all built in lots rather than one by one. I won't know the edition totals until project end but have considered noting it on the accompanying project postcard. I will be posting it here as well for reference.
