About this project
The Film
"Celeste" is a short film about a portuguese couple - Celeste and Carlos - living in the portuguese community of Ironbound in Newark, NJ in the 80's.
Celeste is a very strong woman and a great believer in the Virgin Mary, but she is also very superstitious. She was born with a gift that allows her to see things other people can't. Even though she works as a cleaning lady, she dreams of one day becoming a hairdresser and owning her own salon. But in the meantime, she has an affair with an american to forget about her sad life.
Carlos is a bitter man who has given up on his dream and tries to cope with life and his miserable night shift job. When Carlos finds out about Celeste's cheating, he takes advantage of her beliefs and superstitions to try and drive her crazy.

Connected as José-Maria Norton (592 friends)
José Maria was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal. He is the son of book authors Cristina Norton and José Norton. A huge fan of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" as a young kid, watching the "making of" opened up a new world of movie magic. So at age 6 he knew he wanted to become a film director.
In his Junior year of college in Portugal he interned at a TV Network in Lisbon and shortly after was hired for the second season of the show he started on as an intern to work as reporter. He produced and edited short news pieces for the show.
He came to New York for his Senior year of college attending NYIT and interning at MTV News and Docs where he got a chance to learn editing working alongside seasoned editors. Shortly after graduating Jose worked as an assistant editor and soon after that he became an editor.
Four years later, Jose now holds the title of Lead Editor at The Station in Soho, NYC. Whenever he's not busy cutting national TV spots for major brands he takes the opportunity to direct and music videos and short films like this one here.
