Yah. I know. It's an odd concept, this whole aging thing. We're here for a short time, hard to grasp that simple truth.

      Hi Folks,
Here's the press release I've sent out to print/radio/tv in the Vancouver area. So far, I've lined up two radio interviews and I'm getting newspaper coverage next week:

“Kickstarter” Helps Fund Vancouver Musician’s New CD

Using KICKSTARTER.COM, Vancouver singer/songwriter John Pippus has reached 23% of his goal ($685) on his way to raising $3,000 to help finish his new album, “Born A Genius”. This is after one week of launching his “pledge-and-earn-rewards” campaign on the year-old Brooklyn, NY-based site.

In March, Business Insider named Kickstarter one of "The 20 Hot New York City Startups You Need to Watch." Of the more than 3,000 projects posted on the site, 900 have met their funding goal within the mandatory deadline of 90 days. They don’t just take anyone. The gate-keeping process ensures that sponsored artists - including playwrights, authors, filmmakers, and musicians – have enough creative merit to potentially meet their artist-determined cash targets.

Projects hosted by Kickstarter set out to raise a fixed dollar amount for a particular goal, like recording an album or financing a film. Supporters make pledges via their Amazon accounts. Would-be “arts patrons” have their credit cards charged only if there are enough pledges to meet the fund-raising goal within a set time – 30 to 45 days being the average length of a pledge drive. Backers can select from an array of rewards set out by the artist; the more they pledge the better the booty.

In Pippus’ case, he is trying to raise $3,000 by June 6th (which happens to be his birthday) to help him finish his second full-length album of folk/roots/blues songs. He is donating profits earned from the sale of “Born A Genius” to KIVA (www.kiva.org), a facilitator of “micro-loans” to small, start-up businesses in developing countries.

Connected as John Pippus (836 friends)

I write, perform, and record songs. Sometimes I write alone, sometimes collaborate. My first full-length CD (This City" released 2009) was deemed a "folk/roots GEM" by SoundProof Magazine. More reviews on my "song" page at my website: http://johnpippus.com/songs.html

I perform solo or with a band. I've played: The Bluebird Cafe (Nashville), The Tractor Tavern (Seattle), Bruxelles Bar (Dublin, Ireland), The Newtown Festival (Wellington, New Zealand), The Vogue Theater (Vancouver, Canada) and the 2008 Steel Bridge Festival (Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin), headlined by Jackson Browne, to name just a few favorite gigs.

An all-female pop group in Portugal, The Max Girls, recorded a co-write of mine last year called "Embrace" (In Portuguese, the song is called "Quero-te Assim"). Their debut album sold 250,000 units. See them perform my song here: http://tinyurl.com/289kum5

I am also a playwright/actor. Last year I wrote and performed a one-man musical memoir called "Oh Winnipeg!". My play won "Pick of the '09 Vancouver Fringe Festival", earned sold-out houses, and rave reviews. I'm performing it again this summer at the Winnipeg Fringe Fest.

Now, I've recorded the tracks for my second album, "Born A Genius". The producer, Adam Bailie, is a young guy with energy and vision. By combining our talents we have come up with a project that I am proud to stand behind and eager to promote. If you like folk/blues laced with studio-driven beats and contemporary sonic surprises, I guarantee you're going to take "Born A Genius" to heart. It's fresh. It's different. It's coming soon!
