About this project
WE'RE GONNA LAND THIS THING BRUNO!
My second full-length album, BORN A GENIUS" is a collaboration with 27 year-old producer Adam Bailie. He and I have come up with eleven tracks that showcase my songwriting skills and seasoned delivery, while letting Adam's contemporary production skills shine through and give the whole thing a kick in the pants. Together we transcend the generations!
"BORN A GENIUS" was recorded in a fever of creativity during the spring. Now we are in the post-production phase. That includes mixing, mastering, album design, and duplication. And this takes money. I've invested $4,000 of my money, now I'm asking you to pledge the remaining $3,000. It might sound like a lot, but it's actually on the low end of things. Together we can get this done. All profits from the sale of the album will go to http://www.KiVA.org KIVA facilitates "micro loans" to small start-up businesses in developing countries.
Here is a Mid-Campaign Video Update (posted May 19th), starring that wacky duo, Adam B. and John P:

Your support so far has been a cherry in my sundae of existence. Songwriting and the recording process are usually done in isolation. This time around, knowing I have the enthusiastic and very real support of a large group of people gives the whole thing a community feel that I'm proud to be a part of. And with a dollop of humility too.
I intend to have the new CDs for sale when I perform my one-man musical memoir, "Oh Winnipeg!" at The Winnipeg Fringe Festival in July. I'm doing an 11-show run of my play which chronicles my life in -and out of - music. Chasing the dream ain't always easy.

I write, perform, and record songs. Sometimes I write alone, sometimes collaborate. My first full-length CD (This City" released 2009) was deemed a "folk/roots GEM" by SoundProof Magazine. More reviews on my "song" page at my website: http://johnpippus.com/songs.html
I perform solo or with a band. I've played: The Bluebird Cafe (Nashville), The Tractor Tavern (Seattle), Bruxelles Bar (Dublin, Ireland), The Newtown Festival (Wellington, New Zealand), The Vogue Theater (Vancouver, Canada) and the 2008 Steel Bridge Festival (Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin), headlined by Jackson Browne, to name just a few favorite gigs.
An all-female pop group in Portugal, The Max Girls, recorded a co-write of mine last year called "Embrace" (In Portuguese, the song is called "Quero-te Assim"). Their debut album sold 250,000 units. See them perform my song here: http://tinyurl.com/289kum5
I am also a playwright/actor. Last year I wrote and performed a one-man musical memoir called "Oh Winnipeg!". My play won "Pick of the '09 Vancouver Fringe Festival", earned sold-out houses, and rave reviews. I'm performing it again this summer at the Winnipeg Fringe Fest.
Now, I've recorded the tracks for my second album, "Born A Genius". The producer, Adam Bailie, is a young guy with energy and vision. By combining our talents we have come up with a project that I am proud to stand behind and eager to promote. If you like folk/blues laced with studio-driven beats and contemporary sonic surprises, I guarantee you're going to take "Born A Genius" to heart. It's fresh. It's different. It's coming soon!
