An alternative picture book for families that stresses individuality, rebellion, and big mean penguins.
"A Rule Is To Break: A Child's Guide To Anarchy" is the anti-instruction manual, because there are no rules for bad behavior! Follow the story of Wild Child – a girl determined to express herself in a world that prefers kids speak only when spoken to. That’s just not Wild Child’s style. She’s her own person.
THE PROJECT
"A Rule Is To Break: A Child's Guide to Anarchy" will be a 32-page, full color, paperback self-published picture book for children 5 and under. It will be published and distributed through Amazon's Createspace.
The money raised through Kickstarter will help us with print production fees, art supplies, the creation of a Kindle version of the book, promotions and printed advanced reader’s copies for review.
Any funds raised beyond our goal will go toward iPad development for an App version of the book.
As traditionally published creative partners and parents, we've seen that the publishing industry is only now beginning to discover an untapped market that represents scores of families who live outside the mainstream. We are artists, homeschoolers, unschoolers, punk rockers, DIYers and families who represent social points of view that promote independent thinking, non-conformity, creativity, compassion and self-expression. However, publishers are simply not catching up fast enough to respond to the demand of countless families where good rebellious energy and fun is not only accepted, but a way of life!
That's why we have decided to create and publish the alternative children’s book, "A Rule Is To Break: A Child's Guide To Anarchy" launching a series of counter culture titles that meet the needs of creative, progressive and non-traditional families everywhere!
As a team we have had two picture books published. Jana has been a children's book illustrator for the past decade, working with publishers including Random House, Penguin, Harper Collins, Scholastic, Simon and Schuster, and others. We started out together in the 1990s self-publishing the comic book "Very Vicky" and see this children's book project as the culmination of our own values as parents and as creatives.
