About this project

Joey Z’s Meatballs is a new take on an old lunch staple. We don't just offer marinara sauce and cheese; we give you variety. Ever had pork meatballs with a sweet soy/ginger sauce, grilled onions and peppers? How about chicken meatballs with spicy Buffalo sauce and crumbled bleu cheese? These are just a couple of the sandwiches we’ll be offering.

Joe Zitzelberger has wanted to own his own restaurant since shortly after he became a manager of one, and has spent years experimenting with different concepts. When he came up with this idea (thanks to a lucky accident when he dropped a meatball into wing sauce) he knew this was “the one”. We’ve spent the last year and a half working on the recipes for 3 different kinds of meatballs (beef, pork and chicken) and coming up with a dozen combinations of toppings that work well together.

Our rewards are listed to the right. The food ones are pretty obvious, but we’re also really excited about the “sponsor of the day”. At the $25 level we will pick a day that will be sponsored by you! Each sandwich we make that day will sit on a liner that says “This sandwich was made thanks to Kickstarter and [name]” where [name] is your name, nickname or your dog’s name. Whatever you want as long as it’s family friendly.

We’ll be using the money we raise for equipment, initial marketing, and to help ensure that we make payroll the first few months. When you think about it, if you donate to us, YOU will be a job creator! Because, thanks to Kickstarter, that title’s not just for millionaires anymore. (If you are a millionaire, please know we’d love to have your money, too. Did you see you can get your own party catered by us? Your millionaire friends will be so jealous.)

FAQ

  • Sure! We're happy to help out your business, especially since you're helping out ours. We have limited room on the labels we're using but we're pretty sure we can fit most business names on there. We're also happy to add a line with your phone number or url. When the funding period ends, we'll be sending out surveys to get shipping info and find out what name you want to use.

Connected as Joe Zitzelberger (483 friends)

Born and raised in Brookville, PA, Joe Zitzelberger has wanted to own his own restaurant since he was 16 (the age he first started working in one). He's spent the last 23 years learning everything he could about the restaurant industry while working in a variety of establishments.

He married Sabrina 10 years ago, and she too caught the restaurant bug. They spent many a happy hour discussing menu and concept ideas.

When they moved to Pittsburgh four years ago with their son Alex, they knew this was the city they wanted to operate in, and they are eager to get started.
