Android app and T-shirts
It's day 3 and I'm nearly 250% funded!
Lots of backers want an Android app to run on their phone or tablet. It makes sense; photos and videos you take can be automatically synced to your computer and backed up; you can browse through all your files and choose ones to download to the phone.
So I've done some investigation and it won't be as hard as I'd thought. It won't all need to be rewritten from scratch, and a git-annex app should be able to be put in the Android app store! (No rooting needed.) Still, I will need to take quite a lot of time to learn about Android development, do porting of git, git-annex, and other programs it uses, write some Java code to tie it all together, etc. I may need to hire an Android expert for some part. So, I'm setting a funding goal of $9000 (just $2k more!) -- if that's reached I will add an Android port to my roadmap.
To help get there, and because the limited USB drive reward is almost sold out, I've added a new reward: A T-shirt! It'll be quality material, available in your size, and have a design determined by a poll of its backers.
Consider upgrading your $5 or $10 pledge to get a nice T-shirt and help make the Android port happen!

Absolutely, this is free software, developed in the right way: http://github.com/joeyh/git-annex
I also have a wiki for this project: http://git-annex.branchable.com/design/assistant/

Will you be developing this in an open manor (ala github or bitbucket?)? I have some android experience and I'd love to help out where I can or at least help test.

The only special remotes that could be problematic are those needing external programs: ssh, rsync, bup, and remotes encrypted with gpg. Only ones whose programs can run on android will work of course.
The rest, like Amazon S3 and any new ones added for this Kickstarter, are just part of the code and will port over to Android along with it.

What types of special remotes do you imagine supporting in the app?
