Update #11: Enjoy
Update #10: Give OpenPhoto a try, a Kickstarter backer exclusive
Update #9: Big news coming next week, here's the scoop
Hello, most awesome backers!
I've been heads down working on OpenPhoto and trying to do my best to put all the awesome volunteers that want to contribute to work! Sorry that it's been about a month since my last update. Let's get to the news, shall we? I intentionally put the good stuff at the end so you read it all!
Official 1.0 release next week (and a preview today)
We will have an official 1.0 release next week for those who want to set up the software themselves. This means all major bugs will be fixed and the API will be stable enough for you to start using it and easily upgrade as new features become available. Follow our guides or use our OpenPhoto community AMI for Amazon EC2 to get started. The best way to stay up to date is by following us on Twitter.
You can see how a default installation of OpenPhoto looks by going here: http://current.openphoto.me. Soon we'll have themes you can pick from or you can easily make your own.
What about the easy to use version?
Late November is our target for having version 2.0 available. The 1.0 version is really a milestone to get to version 2.0 and I think most of you (including myself) will chose the hosted version of OpenPhoto once it's available.
Unplanned goodies for all
Remember those volunteers I mentioned above and how awesome they are? Thanks to them we've already got a functional iPhone app for OpenPhoto. It'll be finished next week but won't be in the App Store until whenever Steve Jobs has a chance to accept it. The Android version is on the way.
The community site is so far behind schedule it's embarrassing. I just haven't had the time to help the volunteers who are working on it but hope I can give them the time and attention they deserve after next week!
Official fellow in the Mozilla WebFWD program, TCDisrupt and SFBeta
We're one of the first two teams to be accepted into the WebFWD program. With access to Mozilla's resources we're confident that the OpenPhoto project is just on the brink of awesomeness.
We will be in Startup Alley at TechCrunch Disrupt (got a hookup on tickets!). Stop by on Tuesday if you're at the event. We'll also be at SFBeta Tuesday night.
The team
At this point the OpenPhoto project is well beyond just being my work. Below is a list of volunteers that have helped out so far! This isn't even a complete list and some volunteers want to remain anonymous.
- Patrick Santana (iPhone)
- Patrick Boos (Android)
- Florian Menevis (Design)
- Preet Jassi (JavaScript)
- Klaus Komenda (HTML/CSS)
- Kitt Hodsden (Community)
- Peter Sankauskas (Android)
- John Fabrizio (Community)
- Gareth Greenaway (EC2 AMIs)
- Kevin Hornschemeier (Web)
Thanks!
