Congrats JJ! HPM is a success! I'm so proud. You're a rockstar.
I'm so happy you were able to make the goal! Can't wait to see the project unfold. Keep up the excellent work!
Woooo hooooo! What a great effort! Will you keep emails from this to keep people posted on future events and milestones? Would love to be kept in the loop. Congrats!
I'm proud to have helped make this happen.
Hahaha. JJ has to make crepes for someone who donated $1,000. I'm happy to see the $25,000 milestone was passed. Looked hairy for a while there.
This is AMAZING! I know the goal can be reached!!!
Hi Keith!
The project's included some line dancing, but no squares so far. It is astounding how many different facets there are to dance in the city, so I'll by no means claim to represent it all... but I hope to be heading in that direction... with everyone's help! thank you!
wonderful project!! have you photographed any square dancing yet?

Texting, tweeting and Facebook-ing away! Cool thing is that no one needs to be convinced. The power of the project speaks for itself. Feeling very optimistic!

Thanks Jenny,
The mural, projections and exhibit in the airport baggage claim are already funded. (hurrah!)
If we don't reach this goal, it means that the project likely ends here, and that I won't be able to include more of the hundreds of people that have asked to participate in it.
In a two week window to sign up for 60 slots last year, 420 people signed up, and more have kept asking to participate ever since... so the project definitely has potential to keep going, and community interest... the challenge is getting that community to fund it. Fingers crossed!
Of course, I'll keep producing more photography oriented around celebrating our community, that's what this is all about: http://www.jjtiziou.net/jj/my-dream
I've been passing on the link to some friends, I'm pulling for you guys. I like to idea. Will this project totally be canceled if you don't reach the funding goal?
I think we can do it, going to email/call some people tomorrow...but, good to know everyone can become a sustainer and we can keep this and other things like this going for EVER!
Hi Lily, and you're right that there's a good chance that we may not make it... over $9k left to go in less than 60 hours..
If the funding doesn't make it, check out:
http://www.jjtiziou.net/jj/my-dream/how-you-can-help
If all of the backers signed on as sustainers through Fractured Atlas for $5/month, that would be an amazing force for my community photography work, and a nice little tax deduction for everyone.
For right now, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a final push... but it's obviously ambitious.
So, not trying to jinx the project or anything, but, can you tell us how we can still donate to your community photography work even if we don't reach the kickstarter goal?
I just heard about this project via FB through a fellow librarian. I've posted in on my wall and also on a forum or two of some target social communities. This looks like a great project. I was wondering if you had gone to some of the colleges and found dance troupes from there to photograph this would include the organized groups as well as the more student organizations. I know there are also some talented Philly area bhangra dance groups if you have seen those yet! Kudos for all this work !
Inspiring stuff!
Thank you.
Kind & creative regards,

Megan Bridge let me know about this Kickstarter project - to which I am now a modest backer. I've often seen the photographs of Jacques-Jean Tiziou as I've looked for information about various Philadelphia dancers - photographs that make me feel so happy just to look at them - which capture the feel of the personal presence and creative energy of the dancers I am wanting to know something about. It feels especially good to be a backer of a project started by the man who has given me so much pleasure with his photography.
Hi Sebastian, and good questions- there's so much going on with this project that it's hard to pack all of the info into a short video.
You can find a bit more about the photo series and what the shoots are like at http://www.HowPhillyMoves.org/about
For info about the projection project happening at the Kimmel Center, see http://www.pifa.org/journey/HowPhillyMoves -
Rather than going to schools or discos, the HPM shoots are held in community spaces where people from all over the city come and are photographed in the same way. The first shoots in 2008 happened at Studio 34 and The CEC in West Philly, the 2010 shoots happened at The Painted Bride in Old City.
If I can reach the rather ambitious goal B, the plan is to do a shoot at Broad Street Ministry, which is right next door to where the projection installation will be.
too general, video to be shown where? Are you going to dance schools or discos? Where do people dance, in the streets or dance studios? How many dancers? How many photographs per dancer? A book of dancers?
This is a wonderful project which I hope will continue! Let Philly Dance! :)
You're still my hero JJ
Keep up the good work. From the left coast, nice job.
Thanks for helping make our city even more awesome. :)
