SYNOPSIS

One night after falling victim to an aggressive mugging, a lonely Parisian offers shelter to the mysterious American backpacker who came to his aid. Despite their initial struggle with the language barrier, their chance encounter soon develops into an unlikely friendship. As they communicate with each other over the next few days, their walls slowly begin to break down, and the two strangers suddenly find themselves opening up in ways they never thought they could...

THE PROJECT

Hi, my name is Jim Le, writer and director of L'Américain... This is my first short film shot in French and a story I wrote after being inspired by the French New Wave genre and my many personal experiences over the years with couch-surfing, meeting foreigners in Paris, and my own friendship with a French girl who changed my life.

I developed this project with the belief that even one person can help us learn something significant about ourselves and inadvertently affect the choices we make in life. That person could be your best friend, a significant other, or even a stranger who bumps into you on the street. We are all affected by the encounters and relationships we come across in our lives whether we want them to or not. But what kind of impressions do they make on us? What aspects about ourselves do they make us confront or help us reveal?

The story for the film has been sitting in my head for a long time, and I finally got around to writing the script late last year, but had no means of producing it. So I Iaunched this project on Kickstarter back in April and managed to raise over $7,000 US to help finance the production! Thanks to our wonderful donors, we were able to rent out the perfect shooting location for the film, equip ourselves with all the lighting and camera equipment necessary for the shoot, help pay for the transportation, make-up & props on set, as well as feed our talented, hard-working crew during the intensive four-day shoot...

It was an incredible outcome, and we're all so very grateful to have had the opportunity to film this movie together... and we certainly couldn't have done it without the amazing support and generous donations we received. So thank you to those who have been with us and supported us thus far... You literally helped bring this project to life... !!

... BUT WE STILL NEED HELP!

Shooting the film was only the beginning! It's been two months since we wrapped and though we are all very excited to see the end product, we still need a helping hand at covering the costs of post-production. The money we raise will go to renting studio time and hiring the technicians needed to do the editing, music recording, sound mixing, and color correction for the film. With everything combined, we would need to raise at least $1,500 US ( €1,200 Euros) in order to get the film completely finished by September 2012.

If you happened to miss our initial Kickstarter campaign and wish to support me and my crew during this post-production phase, it’s not too late! We'd love to have you become a part of the project and join us in this very last effort to get L'Américain off the ground and onto the screen!

The goal is to raise at least $1,500 US before the deadline August 11, 2012. If we don't reach the goal before then, no one will be charged for their donation and we won't receive any of the money pledged. But if we do reach the goal, the post-production will be funded and the film will be completed on schedule... thanks to you, of course!
