Update #13: backer information and questions
Update #12: Kickstarter Site Hiccup
Last night, coinciding with the closing of Remedy Quarterly on Kickstarter, there were some troubles with the Kickstarter site itself. The great people there are working feverishly to fix everything for us, and it should be back on track soon, and all of the pledges will be processed properly.
We will update you as soon as we have more information, but just know that our project is still successful, you will receive your magazines and tote bags and recipe cards and cookies, and that we are still totally glowing this morning because we did it!!
And, we are still as grateful as every for your support, because we didn't do it alone.
Update #11: thank you thank you thank you thank you
remedy quarterly is successful!
though we've put a lot of time and love into this project so far, remedy quarterly would not be able to happen without each of our 275 backers, and the bunches of people who blogged, chatted, and chirped about us. you all totally rock!
we have quite a bit of printing, baking, mailing, and tweeting in the upcoming weeks, but we couldn't end the night without another huge thank you to all of you!
if you missed out on pre-ordering remedy through kickstarter, we will be selling it through our website really soon. come visit us at www.remedyquarterly.com and stay tuned for some serious goodness.
lots of love,
jillian + ari bergman

Update #10: One more week to go!
We're working overtime with final tweaks, pre-production, and producing your goodies! Thanks to all your support we've improved our format to a hearty perfect-bound format, and we're going as green as it gets with 100% post-consumer waste, FSC certified paper, it's gonna look and feel great. With the paper squared away, we've turned our apartment into a sort of war room, with printouts of the magazine taped to the wall so we can ensure it's as lovely in person as it has been on screen. Kelly has also printed the recipe cards last week and boy are they cute (perfect for your favorite food-lover).
As our kickstarter time is winding down, we're looking forward to sending the magazine to press as soon as possible. Our goal is to get you deliver thefirst issue before the holidays, but timing is tight and we can't guarantee delivery in time. However, we think Remedy would be a great gift, so we're working on a fun, downloadable gift card to give to your favorite food lover while they wait.
One final thing: we're also working on issue two now, and the stories, contributors, and guests are super exciting!
We have to say, this has been a real treat to work on and we can't wait to share it with you! Thanks for your generous support! cheers!

This looks so good. I'm so excited! Is there a way I could do two subscriptions, the second being a gift subscription? Maybe create a new pledge level in the $72 range (2 x $34) or else let me opt for a higher pledge level and swap something out? Or?

Michael- I just added the double Grillardin so you can easily get a gift subscription along with your own. Thanks for the suggestion!

Update #9: a little snack for you
We can barely contain our excitement (and we shouldn’t have to!) as we are finalizing the design and getting ready to send Remedy to the printer. If you haven’t already bought an issue or subscribed, it’s not too late. We’ll be selling them on our website after Kickstarter, but just remember that if you order through Kickstarter, you get free shipping AND all of the other cool things we have to offer. If you do order the totebag with cookies, we promise that you will be super glad that you did. In the meantime, we wanted to give you a snack to munch on, to help tide you over until your issue of Remedy arrives in your mailbox.

A Household Rule
by Stacey Slate
Bars that serve snacks gratis with their cocktails have the right idea. Why do they do it? Alcohol is a diuretic and sodium chloride (table salt) helps retain water in the body for re-hydration. Or, scientific factor aside, bar snacks suggest a keen sense of hospitality and the act of nibbling livens the social interaction.
In a different setting—an apartment or house—the bar snack is known as a “party mix.” And in my apartment, I stick to a household rule: when expecting friends, prepare the mix. I used to bake a nut-popcorn-pretzel mix, spiced with paprika and cayenne, sprinkled with sugar and solidified with egg whites. The taste was distinctly sweet, spicy and salty. Now after a few years of experimentation, I make a basic recipe that is nothing more than roasted chickpeas. It may be a one-ingredient snack, but I see the legume in a new, dried out light.
I season the chickpeas with olive oil, sea salt, garlic powder and chopped herbs (I usually choose rosemary) before baking. Then I bake the beans at 400 degrees for about 50 minutes, until the shells are entirely brittle. The results are tiny, crunchy bites.
I created the household rule for guests but I take certain liberties with it, now that I live alone. As social gatherings happen less frequently, I make snack mixes just for the sake of snacking. Consider the homemade possibilities: pretzels, vegetable chips, baked edamame, spiced pepitas. The crunchier, the saltier, the better.
Baked Garbanzo Beans
Combine two cans of chickpeas with 3 tablespoons of olive oil, salt and chopped herbs. Just enough of each to add some flavor. Arrange beans on two baking sheets and bake at 400 degrees for 45-50 minutes, or until beans are crisped and dry. Then nibble.

Update #7: Recipe Cards for Sauciers and Patissiers (and you!)
We just couldn't keep these from you any longer! We can't help but love our design for the hand-printed Gocco recipe cards. Gocco is a cool Japanese printing device that is kinda like a small screen print/stamp deal. Each card is printed by hand and has beautiful imperfections from the process.
These are available at the Saucier $80 backer level and above. If you have already pledged, but just can't resist these, Kickstarter allows you to adjust your pledge. These would be beautiful as recipe cards, note cards, or in a frame on your wall.

Update #6: WOW
We are just blown away by the support that we have received over the last couple days, we are literally jumping with joy that so many of you are so excited about Remedy Quarterly!
On Friday, which was our halfway point on Kickstarter, we both hit our goal and surpassed it, and we have jumped $2,000 and gotten 100 new supporters in just two days. We owe every single one of our backers a HUGE thank you (and the magazine, totebag, subscriptions, cookies...).

Update #5: mmmmmmm...... even more goodness!
The awesome design and lettering folks at Friends of Type have designed 16 Unique 'M's for us to screen print on 14x16 canvas tote bags. Hand screen print, that is.
These should be enough to make you want to pledge $25! Just wait 'til we show you the recipe cards...
Update #4: Remedy Quarterly is getting around
With just over $1,000 left to go, and all of your help, we know that we can make this a reality! Can't you just feel the FSC certified recycled paper between your fingertips?
A huge thank you to everyone spreading the word about Remedy Quarterly. We are delighted to be featured in so many of your blogs, tweets, and (gasp!) real conversations.
Update #3: mmm... home baked cookies
These cool days of fall have us in the mood for baking. We are pouring through our own treasured recipe stashes to find the absolute perfect cookies to fill the tote bags. You can only imagine the sweet and buttery goodness we have in store for you!

Update #2: 39 Backers Strong (so far)
We are so excited that you have pledged almost half of the money that we need to be able to get Remedy Quarterly off of the ground! If this is a project that you are excited about, make sure to tell your friends about it, and get them excited.
And, thank you to each one of the 39 people who have already made pledges to support us. We are overwhelmed with the words of support and encouragement that we have been receiving, and are more certain than ever that because of your support, this project will be a success.
If you have not yet been to our website, www.remedyquarterly.com, you must check it out! It looks beautiful (if we don't say so ourselves), and we are always adding new content. On the Remedies page, we have been receiving a slew of new remedies for allergies, upset stomachs, hiccups, and hangovers. You can add your own remedies too!
We would love to hear your feedback on our project- feel free to comment here or email us at hello@remedyquarterly.com
Lots of love,
Aaron, Ari, Jillian + Kelly
Update #1: Thank you!
We are so excited that after just 5 days on Kickstarter, we have already received pledges from 23 people! We have been working for quite some time on the concept of the publication and first issue itself, and we can't believe that it may just come to fruition. We are very appreciative to each of the people that has pledged their support for our project. We promise that you won't be disappointed when that beautiful magazine appears in your mailbox!

The four of us met shortly after moving to Brooklyn. We quickly became friends and found ourselves sharing delicious meals and recipes (and the occasional kitchen disaster). When Ari and Jillian moved to Cambridge, our meals together didn't happen as often but we satiated ourselves with shared recipes and food adventures.
When a crossing guard passed on his family remedy from Barbados to help cure Ari's cold, the idea was sparked. We realized that remedies and recipes are like edible personal histories, something we all share. It happened that our overlapping skills—Jillian's project management and love of talking to strangers, Kelly's cooking and design, Aaron's design and web, and Ari's medical—came together as Remedy Quarterly.
