About this project

We are raising money to print our very first issue of Remedy Quarterly [Stories of Food. Recipes for feeling good], based out of Brooklyn, NY and Cambridge, MA. We aim to print 1,000 copies, which will take $3,000, and will definitely be worth it.
CONCEPT:
Remedy Quarterly is a subscription-based quarterly publication of submitted recipes from storied pasts and personal histories; the best remedy, the most comfort, the finest nutrition is a heart-warming and stomach-filling meal. Accompanying the printed publication, the website provides readers with additional recipes, regularly updated content, and a venue for the submission of comments, memories, and recipes. An independently published magazine, Remedy Quarterly will attract readers and lovers of food with a discerning palette for craft and quality.
CONTENT:
The pieces in each issue share a common theme [the first issue's theme is home], weaving together a collection of recipes, stories, photography, and illustrations. Recipes and associated stories have been compiled through both written submissions and personal interviews with notable food bloggers and chefs. The website contains additional remedies, stories and a blog.
DETAILS:
We are excited to put this content into a tangible package. Don’t get us wrong, we love online magazines, but there’s nothing like the real thing. This first issue is a whopping 48 pages at 8.5″ by 5.5″ with 100% content, no ads! Sure, that makes the cover price a bit higher and it makes our profit lower, but it’s a joy to flip through. It’s 2-color offset printing, not unlike the old community cookbooks that inspired us.

Creating this magazine has truly been a labor of love, and we appreciate all of the support you can give. We know you will enjoy reading and cooking from Remedy as much as we have enjoyed creating it.
Lots of love,
Aaron, Ari, Jillian + Kelly

The four of us met shortly after moving to Brooklyn. We quickly became friends and found ourselves sharing delicious meals and recipes (and the occasional kitchen disaster). When Ari and Jillian moved to Cambridge, our meals together didn't happen as often but we satiated ourselves with shared recipes and food adventures.

When a crossing guard passed on his family remedy from Barbados to help cure Ari's cold, the idea was sparked. We realized that remedies and recipes are like edible personal histories, something we all share. It happened that our overlapping skills—Jillian's project management and love of talking to strangers, Kelly's cooking and design, Aaron's design and web, and Ari's medical—came together as Remedy Quarterly.
