About this project
ACTRESS is a new feature film from JFRobinson (STILL BREATHING) that is currently in pre-production. The film will be a narrative "scripted documentary" about a Hollywood actress that cuts the bonds of reality and disappears into the lives of fictional characters she creates on an extended road trip that starts in Mexico and continues up the west coast to Canada.
This clip is a "Concept Clip"... it's sort of like the DNA for the future film.
WHAT IS IT? The film will mix scripted plot and dialog with unscripted, improvisational elements. It will feature professional actors and non-pros, thrust into the position of playing themselves in a motion picture. The film is partly inspired by Bergman's PERSONA, and Fellini's 8 1/2 and his use of non-actor characters in small parts in his films.
ACTRESS will be a new form of hybrid digital cinema, mixing fiction and non-fiction. It will explore themes such as the addictive nature of acting, “real” vs. “pretend” and the regenerative force of raw creativity.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? Initial funds are needed for pre-production expenses, including location scouting, casting expenses, legal costs and other expenses. Funding of the full budget (approx. $15,000) will be completed in mid-2011.
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? Robinson previously wrote and directed the independent drama STILL BREATHING starring Brendan Fraser, Joanna Going, Celeste Holm, Lou Rawls and Ann Magnuson. The award-winning film was released theatrically in the US by October Films (Focus Features) and internationally by Paramount Pictures, Disney, Fox and other distributors. The film premiered as the closing film of the SXSW Film Festival and went on to be selected by more than 10 international film festivals, including Chicago, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, Korea, Portugal, Montreal and others. Fraser won the Best Actor Award for his role in STILL BREATHING at the Seattle International Film Festival. Robinson was nominated for the Grand Prix des Amériques at the Montreal World Film Festival. STILL BREATHING has been televised in more than 16 countries, and in the US has aired on HBO, Showtime, The Sundance Channel, IFC, Bravo, AMC and others networks.
Previous work by Robinson has been seen on PBS, Discovery and The Disney Channel.
