Hi! I’m Jessica Roadcap, and if you’re reading this, thank you for taking the time to do so! Since the June 2010 release of my debut album, Dance in a Hurricane, I’ve been writing and growing as an artist. I am incredibly excited to get back into the studio and record new music to share with you. I am beyond thrilled that I may be able to do so with the support of awesome people like you!
What do I hope to do?
Since the release of Dance in a Hurricane, I have written tons of new music that I am so excited to share with you. This particular project is already underway, but the completion almost completely depends on the backing of this fundraiser. I hope to release a 5-6 song album (also called an “extended play” album or “EP”) late this spring. All songs on the album will be songs I have written by myself or co-written with some super-talented songwriter friends of mine. The EP will be available on iTunes and other digital storefronts and in hard-copy form for me to sell at shows and on my website! With this new music I hope to gain new fans (like you!) and maybe even get some radio play. I hope to one day be able to write and sing for a living...
Here’s how the recording process works:
1. Pick the 5-6 songs that I feel are my strongest as a writer and represent me best as an artist.
2. Go through the “pre-production” phase of the album with my producer. This is the phase where the vibe of every song is determined; i.e. instrumentation, solos, overall sound, etc.
3. Go to the studio. (Yay!!!) We'll track drums, bass, acoustic, piano, and steel guitar, and we'll spend a couple days overdubbing mandolin, fiddle, dobro, and a few other "color instruments," saving vocals for last.
4. Get the final tracks mixed and mastered.
5. Do a photo shoot with a great local photographer to get shots for the album cover. Then hire an awesome graphic designer to bring it all together.
6. Print physical copies of the EP and release it to iTunes for digital sale. Then I can have a CD Release Show where physical copies will be available for sale and I can personally thank each and every one of you for your support along the way! :)
Why a $6,000 price tag? What is the money specifically for?
The total cost of this project is actually closer to $8,500. Our goal is to get as close to $8,500 as we can. But $6,000 would be the perfect way to “kickstart” this project!
By now you can see there are so many expenses that go into recording an album. Here is the rundown of what your hard-earned, generously-given money would be going towards:
- Production
(Studio time, musicians, tracking engineer, mixing, and mastering)
- Album artwork
(Photography and Graphic Design)
- CD
replication, packaging and shipping
Whether you give $1 or $1000, I need your help! Every penny counts. Plus, you get some really cool prizes and rewards in return. Check out the right side of the screen! The more you donate, the more you get! I'm giving everyone 2 months to help out, a time frame that just so happens to include Christmas (wink, wink). Therefore... I'll let you guess what's on my wish list. ;)
The MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ALL!!!!:
You will not be charged for a pledge until after February 1st, only if we have reached the $6,000 goal. If I'm even one dollar short of the goal on the campaign deadline, you won’t get any of these rewards and I won’t be able to record this project. Unfortunately, that also means that I can’t get my new music out any time soon.
It's ALL or NOTHING! So please, PLEASE spread the word to your friends and family. Although I can’t be short of the final goal on the deadline, I can go above and beyond it. Anything above the $6,000 will still be invested into recording and releasing new music.
I'm truly grateful for this opportunity, and I can't thank you enough for listening to my music and for supporting me. I really hope you will be a part of this project!!
Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!!!!
Love,
Jessica

With a sweet southern smile and a story that resembles a sad country song, Jessica Roadcap captivates her audiences with intricate melodies and a unique voice full of color and air. Straight from the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, the twenty-four year old singer-songwriter has recently planted her roots in Nashville, Tennessee where she is emerging as an artist and songwriter in the Country/Americana music scene.
Jessica Roadcap grew up on a farm in small-town Virginia singing to farm animals, climbing hay bails and wandering through the stockyards humming melodies and making up songs. She took every opportunity she could to play for various festivals and events in and around her hometown. With her unique voice, she struggled to find the perfect cover songs to sing, so at the age of eleven, she began writing her own. Her parents’ divorce gave her plenty to write about.
Her debut album, appropriately entitled “Dance in a Hurricane,” is filled with songs that express ideas that arose in her own life and in the lives of all those around her during troubled times. Each of the eleven songs, written solely by Jessica or co-written with others, is performed passionately with a style that is all her own.
“No one can seem to put a finger on who I sound like,” Jessica says. “I’m often a product of a blender. Until I moved to Nashville, I didn’t appreciate the fact that I was different. I am different. And I’m just beginning to explore that blessing.”
