In Between the Raindrops: A documentary that pays tribute to legendary jazz figures who got their start in Seattle during the 40′s.
"In Between the Raindrops," is a feature-length video documentary that pays tribute to a number of historical jazz figures (including interviews with musical impresario Quincy Jones, Grammy Award-nominated vocalist Ernestine Anderson, and others) who got their start in Seattle during the 1940′s and 50's. In the interviews, the artists discuss such topics as their love for the craft, the early years of Quincy Jones as a composer, the experience of performing in Seattle during a raid, and the racial divide between the musicians’ unions during that time. This documentary will help continue their legacy and share a largely unknown, but very important, part of history.
Your support will enable us to complete a very critical step to completing our documentary -- editing. The funding we are asking for from our Kickstarter campaign will allow us to purchase an Apple computer that we can edit on, the Final Cut Pro software needed, and an external hard drive, as well as a small digital video camera we can use to transfer the footage directly from the tapes we have shot onto the computer. Presently, we cannot afford this editing equipment and we need it in order to finish the project. With your help, you can be part of history!

As part of the project, two sold-out concerts, under the name of "Seattle Jazz Legends in Concert" were organized to feature a number of the interviewed artists, performing together. Footage from these concerts was captured for use in the upcoming documentary. Click here to view a short video with some behind the scenes photographs and music played at one of the concerts.

"In Between the Raindrops" was recently awarded grants from the Allied Arts Foundation and the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, and has received positive recognition from former Seattle Mayor Norm Rice, as well as representatives of the Smithsonian Institution and the Northwest African American Museum, who displayed a preview of the documentary, for six months, in a recent exhibit.
The documentary will also include rarely seen photos and footage (as seen above -- in a still of Buddy Catlett performing with Louis Armstrong and his All Stars).
(Audiences of "Seattle Jazz Legends in Concert" were offered a glimpse of the upcoming documentary -- as seen above.)
