Preparing for a massive graphic novel project is hard work. Especially when you're six years out of practice.

I'm a cartoonist—at least I think I still can say that. The last time I regularly made comics, I mean, day in and day out, was back in 2005. I've kept plenty busy since, but the amount of time I've spent drawing has dropped precipitously.

So now I find myself with a giant new comics project to draw, and one that requires great anatomy, controlled inking, and sharp thinking on color. (More about Trish Trash: Rollergirl of Mars on my website, and in the video!) Am I up to the job? Uh...I'm a little rusty, frankly.

Perhaps it goes without saying that I need to be doing some serious preparatory drawing, but between having two kids, teaching (comics, ironically), editing the Best American Comics, and traveling all over to give talks and workshops (among too many other things), not to mention my inherent laziness when faced with something difficult, it's not happening.

Meanwhile, I had a little realization last year, that about 60 percent of my clothes were inappropriate, badly-fitting, or just plain unworn. I decided to get rid of them and start from (almost) scratch.

Can I put these two things together into a weird and entertaining project that will get me where I need to be to draw a 250-page graphic novel? I guess we're gonna find out!

Here's what I propose to do: Every day I'm in my studio, I will draw a study of some kind. Mostly involving the female figure, sometimes with background (sometimes on Mars). Some drawings will be pencil, some ink, some color. And I'm going to try to incorporate an item of my clothing in each one.

If you join my funders, you can get a piece of original art, AND a piece of my  clothing for you or a loved one to wear! If you send me pictures of you wearing it, I'll post on my blog! (And if it kind of creeps you out, you can keep it in a mylar sleeve).

I have all kinds of stuff: boring T-shirts, awesome vintage, wearable items for a work wardrobe...most in the range of women's sizes 8-10, but I even have a bunch of vintage men's clothing, if you happen to be a fairly small man. If you tell me your specific preferences (and sizes of you or a loved one) I can try to give you something that will actually fit...And I'll always prefer to send awesome items to someone who wants to actually wear them!

You get: art and a bit of weird ephemera, and I get: a real drawing workout. Take a look at the great rewards on the right and join me!
