Jersey Devil Press is a small, independent publisher of stories that don’t quite know where to go. We're here to give a good home to the writing that either doesn’t belong in the usual places or simply chooses not to fit in. And while one of those homes is our stellar monthly online magazine, man does not live by online journals alone.

No, sometimes man wants a longer story, fiction he can really sink his teeth into. And sometimes man even wants a real, physical book, something with heft, for killing spiders and starting small fires. And so, because we do not want to disappoint our fellow human beings, Jersey Devil Press also releases the occasional novel or short story collection.

In fact, we've got two in the pipeline right now -- Exponential Apocalypse: Dead Presidents by Eirik Gumeny (out in July) and Shake Away These Constant Days, a collection of short stories by Ryan Werner (out this fall). But we'd like to do more. Our modest funding goal covers book design, printing, and advertising the ever-loving shit out of the above-mentioned titles. Anything over the goal goes towards releasing an additional anthology this winter. And if we really go over the goal, we may even be able to pay the authors.

Exponential Apocalypse: Dead Presidents

Exponential Apocalypse: Dead Presidents, by Eirik Gumeny, is the sequel to the much more simply named Exponential Apocalypse. Nathaniel Katz said of the first book, “Exponential Apocalypse is crass, ludicrous, and occasionally nonsensical. It’s also hilarious and entertaining.”

You should expect no less from the sequel. Here's the rundown:

There had been twenty-five apocalypses to date. Earth’s surface had changed so drastically and so often that maps were now filed under History or Fiction in the one library that still existed. Words like “earth-shattering,” “cataclysmic,” and “forever” were commonplace in weather forecasts, and an eighty percent chance of widespread fire tornados simply meant “wear shorts.” People barely noticed the end of the world anymore unless they were directly involved.  
 
Thor, former God of Thunder and indirectly responsible for the twenty-third end of the world, had returned to his day job at the Secaucus Holiday Inn, surlier than ever. His Google alert for "Ragnarok" was bringing in fewer and fewer results, and he was beginning to think that the Twilight of the Gods might never come to free him from the hellish, nightmare world that was working minimum-wage customer service. 
 
But then Timmy, the telekinetic, telepathic super-squirrel, came skittering back into Thor's life, bruised and smoking slightly after having his tail handed to him by a two-hundred-year-old man in a robotic exoskeleton. The rodent needed help, and, despite his best intentions, that help was going to have to be Thor and his friends Chester A. Arthur XVII and Queen Victoria XXX.

Shake Away These Constant Days by Ryan Werner

Ryan Werner cleans bathrooms at a Wal-Mart in the Midwest. He's got a body built for sin and an appetite for passion. He is both a rock god and magician, as a member of the sleaze rock band Legal Fingers and as a writer turning other people's songs into stories at Our Band Could Be Your Lit. His stories are fucking awesome and if you don't want to see a book of them you should really reconsider the choices you've made in your life that have led you to such a boring end.

Shake Away These Constant Days is an assortment of previously published OBCBYL stories and new work. They will make you laugh, they will make you cry. They will make you question the meaning of life and your place in this world. They will make you hate Ryan a little because he is just too damn good. Don't believe us?
