Long story medium-short:

The literal goal of LOVELAND is to create a 1 million square inch grid (about 84' x 84') in the city of Detroit, Michigan that people can own and create on for $1 an inch. It's a massively small big experiment that opens up many incheresting possibilities. How big will you and your new neighbors make a million inches? Only one way to find out...

Inchvestors will get an actual inch for every dollar they inchvest once the grid exists for reals, and forever be recognized as Founding Forefathers and Foremothers of this tiny new city or country or whatever it becomes. When you get your inches you'll be able to create on them physically (in person -- or by asking someone local) or virtually (over the internet), like a real life Sim City.

What will people choose to do with their inches? We have some ideas (and some cool suggestions), but part of the magic is that we don't really know what all will happen! It's an adventure, it's a story, it's a good time, and we hope it blossoms into something amazing. But first, we have to start so the future can take care of itself.

LOVELAND is a work in progress. Currently there's a building in Detroit that we hope will be the location of the physical grid of inches (fingers crossed) and a number of people are helping on everything from the interactive online map, to project management, to the illustrations and copy for the inch deeds, to the physical architecting of the space, to promotional support etc. We're also looking to expand that list.

Long story short, it's time to level up: the project needs to start raising more money, belief, and creative energy from a community to move forward, execute, and make it real.

A few common language, common sense disclaimers:

As you may imagine, there are still some uncertainties to figure out as we go along, including how exactly inch ownership will be contracted and what the appropriate physical and virtual creative constraints are. These can only be solved by working through issues as they arise with the right attitude of friendly transparency.

This initial $1,000 fundraising goal is not enough to pay for the entirety of the project, rather it's a kickstarting of a kickstarting, with more to come.

Though this is certainly not the intent, if for any reason LOVELAND never physically exists, as an inchvestor in the project you must agree to be happy with a sort of spiritual ownership of your inches, and not take action against the people working on the project. That wouldn't be in the spirit of things. And as an inchvestor and Founding Forefather or Foremother, if you see LOVELAND stumble, please help pick it back up! :)
