Before Ted, there was John. A foul mouthed puppet just trying to make it through the day. Muppetcore Cinema.
"What Luck?" is a one of a kind, feel good, raunchy good time. John, a down and out puppet, is set on setting things right with Holly, while screwing things up along the way. His best friend Tim, is set on splitting John and Holly apart for his own agenda. A romantic Comedy with a puppet lead, it defies conventional film making while maintaining conventional storytelling elements.
The puppet, John, is built to and performed with the same high standards of puppetry delivered to the Jim Henson Company over the years that we have all come to know and love. Never before has puppetry been desecrated so crudely, and hysterically as in "What Luck?" You'll cover your eyes in shame, and try your best to keep milk from spurting out your nose. Although there was a passionate and dedicated crew in place to help shoot and edit the majority of the material, the free labor and favors have run out. The tires are hitting the pavement. The final costs to finish the film can't be bartered or traded. Believe me. I tried.
Shot in a laborious 6 days at a breakneck pace, The crew enlisted the Canon 5D mark 2 to shoot on a shoestring budget and maintain production values that rival high budget puppet productions and modern camera work rarely employed with puppet films. The passion of the cast and crew seep onto the screen in a relatable tale of the modern male and his struggle with love. The crude language of the under 35 year old male is delivered through the forgiving lips of a puppet causing you to relate to a puppet lead like never before. You'll love or you'll hate it, but it WILL evoke a passionate response. Watch the NSFW trailer before you go any further.
That's right. John has a smoking habit, that drives a messed up old Volvo and is out of work. Sounds like a lot of people in America right? The full film clocks in at 72 minutes and needs some finishing touches to complete it and submit it to as many film fests as possible! But first! Completion funds are needed to bring this film to an audience. A final color pass and sound mix are needed as well as promo materials and a minimal ad campaign on FB. Film Festival Submissions and DVD mailers will round out the spending and hopefully will kick this film into high gear and find a mainstream audience, well, an audience at least. We are so close to the finish line on this whimsical, quirky fun filled film whose very nature defines the collaborative nature of film making. You will help us on our final strides toward completion.
Why 3,300? That's the math. The bare minimum I need to get a Sound mix and festival quality tape output (times 2 for safety!) promo fliers for any fests it gets into, and submission into my chosen Film Festivals through Without a box. Please help us cross the lines into counter culture with whichever donation fits your budget. Your funding will help polish this film to completion and get it submitted to film fests and begin a grass roots marketing campaign to bring What Luck? to a wider audience. Thank you in advance for helping to keep Independent film making Independent. Like us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/JohnWLM ) and please, share this project with EVERYBODY YOU KNOW! (And everybody you don't know!) You can always see what zany project I'm on next or finished recently at jerroldspot.blogspot.com cheers!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
As with all films, risks and challenges are part of the process. As an accomplished filmmaker, I have had the foresight to come out ahead at every junction during this filmmaking process. A 4 day prep, a 6 day shoot and an 18 day edit. As an Emmy award winning Editor, the post process is my playground. I just don't have all the toys. I know people who do and am looking forward to playing in their playground, which is why I need the minimum funding to accomplish my last few tasks. rest assured this film will get done one way or the other. Kickstarter funding allows me to do it all at once without begging anymore favors and a small amount for film festival submissions so it can be seen and hopefully, bought.
