About this project
OVERVIEW
The Frontier is a feature documentary portrait of coastal Louisiana that celebrates the dynamic relationship between the people and their place in hopes of raising awareness about the environmental and industrial threats that endanger it. The film is in the middle stages of a year-long production period and we are raising funds to complete principal work.
In May 2010 our team completed 1 of 6 planned production periods. 2 of 6 was completed in July. 4 REMAIN to complete in the next 8 months. The $12,000 we are trying to raise will fund these remaining production periods for this timely portrait of the imperiled coast of Louisiana.
We're collaborating with a number of eco-friendly companies, like 350.org, Ocean Champions, Klean Kanteen, Ecobags, Colcasac, Defend the Coast, Heads of State, and A Bryan Photo, to raise awareness and bring you cool rewards to help make your donation even more worthwhile. You can check out the blog/updates tab above for pictures of each.
HIGH STAKES
Unless we meet our goal and raise the $12,000 by October 25th, we don't get ANY of your pledged contributions.
PLEASE HELP US REACH OUR GOAL SO THAT THIS TIMELY FILM CAN BE AS POIGNANT AND BEAUTIFUL AS IT DESERVES TO BE!!!

ADDITIONAL PROJECT INFORMATION
During the remaining 9 months, The Frontier team will continue following an old and young cast of characters, including Lester Ansardi, a 65 year-old crabber in St. Bernard Parish who feels most at home in the marsh, “on the water with the seagulls hollerin’" and Terry "Buff" Vegas, an old-school shrimper on Grand Isle that dropped out of middle school, married his lovely wife Rosemary at 16, and has been fishing ever since. Joining Lester and Buff are 15 year-old Jody Billiot, Brandie, a bartender on Grand Isle, the inimitable Marcus de la Houssaye, and others—a charismatic group of people holding on to a life on the margins of a beautiful, but vanishing frontier.
COLLABORATORS
Our list of expert collaborators is big (e.g. Mike Tidwell, author of Bayou Farewell; Dr. Alexander Kolker at Lumcon, Gulf Restoration Network, Kirk Cheramie at United Houma Nation), and growing. We've also partnered with 350.org, the Louisiana Film Foundation, America's Wetland Foundation, and A Very Nice Design Studio, just to name a few.
HOW YOUR DONATION WILL BE USED
All funds will be used in 3 main ways:
--Travel Expenses (the biggest line items are Flights, Car Rental, Fuel). Traveling back and forth between Louisiana and New York isn't cheap, but to save money, we're couchsurfing and paying for our own food.
--Equipment (the biggest line items are Camera, Storage, Insurance).
--The Coastal Frontier (the biggest line item being film stock and development). The Coastal Frontier is an innovative photography component to The Frontier that will generate money to be donated back the people and places of coastal Louisiana. More on http://coastalfrontier.com.
Also, through 1% For the Planet, we will be donating 1% of all funds raised through this campaign back to the planet.
Please don't be shy about spreading the word on our fundraising campaign!
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
