I want to first thank all of you for your amazing and generous support. I also wanted to thank former NBA basketball player John Amaechi not only for making a generous pledge to this Kickstarter drive, but for also lending his support in the form of a video that I am now sharing on the main homepage. I embedded the video below, but you can also just go to the main drive page at www.FearlessPhotobook.com to watch it there as well.
We are down to just the last one and a half weeks so please remind your friends to pledge a donation if they haven't done so already! Currently we are at 70% of the goal with over $35,000 raised.
Also, since some of you were wondering, I am in the process of working with a non-profit attorney and seeking 501c3 status to make donations to the Fearless project and this drive eligible for a tax-deduction based on the tax policies in place for non-profits, and also for matching donations from companies. Please let me know if you have any questions and/or see the FAQ on the main page.
Thank you all again!!!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Labor Day holiday weekend.
I just wanted to highlight an amazing piece of press that just came out, an article about the project and this Kickstarter drive on ESPN.com:
While we still need 45% more to reach our goal, we still have about 2 weeks left and I know that with your help and enthusiasm, we can make it. Please share the ESPN article with your friends, and hopefully having such a major media outlet backing this project will help encourage others to pledge.
I just got back from the Philadelphia area where a few days ago, I photographed Eliana, an "out" high school track and field star - she came out in high school a few years ago when she was 15 years old, and just graduated. During that time she was a 2-time Pennsylvania State Champion in the 60m and 100m hurdles, First Team All State Selection, achieved 10 Varsity letters, and is her school and league record holder. Her first day of college was yesterday at UPenn, and she plans on competing for their track and field team in the heptathlon.
Thank you all so much for your generous support so far!!! - Jeff
FIrst, a BIG THANK YOU, for being backers in this first half of the Fearless Project Kickstarter Campaign. In just over a month, we have raised over $24,000, just shy of 50% of the $50,000 goal. The next 3-4 weeks will be really important for the drive before it ends on Sep 18, so please keep sharing and encouraging your friends to pledge. We are nearing the end, so hopefully all the procrastinators will jump on board...
When you have a chance on a computer (the ipad and iphone sites are still being worked on) - please visit this new website. There you will find a completely redesigned Fearless Project site, that also features LGBT Athlete Videos talking about their coming out experiences - you can find it under the "Athlete Videos" section (for now, you have to be on a computer to view them - but hopefully the ipad and iphone sites will be working by the weekend). Also, I want to encourage any current and former LGBT athletes so make their own video so I can share it on the new Fearless Project website. Please share, facebook post, tweet, e-mail this new site to all your friends!
So I want to end this update with two things - a photo and a video. The photo below is from yesterday - I spent the day in Iowa of all places photographing Tanner, an "out" high school football player. This image is just one of the digital tests from the shoot - but I wanted to share it as it speaks so much to the heart of this project. I also wanted to share one of the new Athlete Videos from the Fearless Project: Dominique, an NCAA sprinter at Colby College, talking about his coming out experience - one of the videos featured on the new FearlessProject.org site.
I hope you enjoy this update - and again, thank you all so much for your generous pledges so far.
3.5 more weeks to go to raise the other 52% needed to reach our goal!!
All my best,
