Awful, Ohio is an independently published book, seeking promotional funding. Independent publishing is a great way for new authors to get material on the shelves, and into retail stores, without having to go through the rigorous obstacle of getting published through major publishers. This allows the author to maintain all the artistic control and integrity of their own material, without SELLING OUT to the demands of the publishing company big-wigs!
This is great for writers. However, without the backing of a major publication, the funding must come entirely from the author. Ever hear of the starving artist?
Awful, Ohio will be ready for sale on Amazon.com by late august, early september. With the funding that i'd receive from a successful kickstart, i'd like to use it to strategize a marketing and advertising campaign. I've taken advantage of all the free possibilities by starting a blog, opening a twitter account, and even launching a website. But all that exposure is limited through tedious word of mouth promotions. So I’ve scoped out advertising blocks in highly trafficked book blogs that would gather bibliomaniacs’ interested in a book like Awful, Ohio.But...
What I'd really like to do is attempt some type of guerrilla marketing campaign. I've thought about making a fake video of an alien abduction, and trying to get the national media to buy into it. I would some how relate it to Awful, Ohio, so that all the press can relate the alien abduction to the book. (alien abductions are themes in the book.)
Or...
i've thought of advertising on bilboards that are entering and leaving Ohio. Just imagine, driving into Ohio, then suddenly seeing a bilboard titled: "Awful, Ohio." I think that could generate a lot of media-crazed publicity as well, but probably not as much as alien abductions.
Regardless, I’m open to guerrilla marketing ideas if there are any to share.
Please help fund my project so that I can create a cult following of my own.
