Update #10: Moving right along

Posted on April 20

The songs are mastered!  I've enjoyed working with two wonderful sound engineers that have great skills in front of the microphones, and excellent musical sensibility;  David Correia from Celebration Sound studios in Seekonk, MA and Jesse Vengrove in Boston, MA.  I'm so happy with what I'm hearing and the process has gone smoothly from beginning to end.  The last piece of the musical side is deciding the final track order.  Now, onto the cd design!  ~Jason

Update #9: 3/27/12

Posted on March 27

The recording process is complete!  Wahoo!  First major milestone!  Next, I move on to the mastering of the tracks, and the cd design process.  I am playing around with titles for the album....suggestions so far: Just Listen and Musical Sunshine for a Rainy World.  Do you have any suggestions?  I'd love to hear what the music evokes in you as a listener.  Please send me titles, words or phrases that come to mind when you listen!

Thank you.  See you soon!

~Jason

P.S.  Attached is a version of Li'l Brat!

Update #8: 3/16/12: The Halfway point

Posted on March 16

Greetings from the recording studio!  I am happy to say that the recording is well under way, and that I love what I'm hearing!  I think you are going to enjoy it as well!  It has been quite an amazing experience to get to this mid-point of the recording sessions and be staring down the final studio days next week!  I am so grateful for your contributions and support, and am very excited for you to hear the product that is coming.  The songs are exceeding my expectations.  In playback, they sound even nicer than my experience playing the tunes!  I can't believe how much the songs have grown under the microphone and how beautiful everything is sounding.

Please enjoy this rough mix of There He Goes(attached).  There is a still a tiny bit of work left to be done on it.  This is one of the take home versions I have been listening to in between sessions.  Although I am slightly behind my proposed schedule, I do not foresee setbacks in the end date.

With much Love and gratitude,

~Jason

Update #7: 2/9/12 Let the recording begin!

Posted on February 9
Hello all! I'll be in the studio in the next two weeks recording the first tracks of the new album! The first 5 songs I'm going to work on are: SHE'S HERE - This is a song I've written for my niece Civi when she was born in 2006. It happened quite effortlessly and was complete in about 48 hours. It is a short but beautiful piece that I play often at gigs. THERE HE GOES - This is a tune I wrote for my nephew Lejend after he was born in 2008. Originally the song was completely different, and it was taking me quite a long time to craft. Lucky for me actually, because once I met him and got to know his personality I realized he definitely needed a different song. He was too mischievous for a beautiful lullaby! TWIZZLE - A really fun spontaneous song that allows a lot of room for improvisation. It never happens the same way twice so I'm hoping to capture it well in the studio. LI'L BRAT - Another fun tune that reminds me of a bratty little kid. Must've been what I was channeling when I wrote it I guess. Not far from my alter-ego actually. PAPAYA - I started writing this song after a week long meditation festival/retreat in Brazil. I had my guitar along because I was asked to play music for the production of the play on the last day of the festivities - for 3000 people! During a couple days of travel after the festival was done, we ventured over to Illabelle(beautiful Island) just off the coast of Sao Sebastao. The pousada(Porto Pousada - in case you go)was built into the trees and the hillside like a Swiss Family Robinson style tree house. The deck overlooked the bay towards the main land with a large tree growing through the center of it. There were exotic birds everywhere, and delicious fruits dominated the menu. I spent the better part of that day soaking up the view. At breakfast many parrots and multi-colored birds joined us and ate the Papayas left out for them on the railing of the deck. This song was inspired by it all. - - First session is on Feb 17th with two more sessions the following week! Be talking to you soon. Many thanks! ~Jason

Update #6: 1/6/12 Project Timeline

Posted on January 6

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and New Year's celebration in whatever fashion you chose to do it!  Now that the New Year is here and the holiday bustle is over I'm getting down to business. I'm looking toward the Spring when I'll have a brand new cd in hand!

I've set my basic timeline for the project with an expected finish date of May 1st.  I hope to have the cd at that time.  Here is the basic timeline I've set for the backbone of the project to be executed.  There are many other details to tend to along the way but these are the major milestones I hope to accomplish.  I've worked the plan backwards like a farmer with crops:

May 1st- 15th  Send out Kickstarter rewards

May 1st CD Arrival at my home!(T-shirts too)

April 15th Final CD Sent to Print

April 1st T-shirts sent to print

March 15th Send music to be Mastered

March 1-15 Finish Mixing

March 1st Finish Recording

Jan-Feb Practice! Practice! Record!

I'm working on the songs now, getting them ready for recording by practicing at home as well as playing them at performances to "get the bugs out".  I hope to have the studio(s) identified by the end of January, so that February can be fully geared toward recording.

I will keep you updated as things move forward.  Thank you very much!

~Jason
