About this project
Hello! Welcome to Section U052 of my giant needlepoint tapestry. Let's break it down:
- I'm a cross-stich/needlepoint artist who is interested in exploring resolution and scale
- my current project is a 20′ x 10′ needlepoint tapestry comprised of over 18.5 million stitches
- there are five distinct panels/scenes
- to manage such a large project I've broken each of the panels into hundreds of very small sections (roughly 3″ x 2″ / average of 7400 stitches per section)
This kickstarter project is for a specific section (052 of 504) of a specific panel (nickname: Umbrellas). It has just over 6400 stitches in it.
I've done the math and calculated that it would take me nearly 11.5 years to complete the entire tapestry if I worked non stop 24/7. That is obviously impossible and so it will take me most of my life to finish this thing. Your support helps me not only pay for the materials for each section, but also to afford to potentially scale back at work and have more time for the project.
Each of the small 3″ x 2″ sections take nearly a week of 24/7 work to complete. In reality this means it takes a couple months for me to complete a section. I'm asking for 10¢ per stitch; this section has 6435 stitches, so $643.50.
I think I've cooked up some fun rewards, and even a very small pledge of $1 is very helpful. Thanks for your help!
Remember, the funding is all or nothing, and there are more sections to come. As much as I'd appreciate you dropping a large amount of cash on me, it would be better if everyone gave a little (and could therefore afford to give a little again and again with each new section). Also, telling everyone you know and sharing/tweeting the project is very helpful.

For every $2 you pledge I'll do one stitch. For example, if you pledge the minimum, $1000, I'll take an image you provide and make a pattern from it that has 500 stitches in it.
